Ok, in case none of you know by now...and you all should know, that I am the biggest Bad Girls fan in this world...and it's not because of the lesbain activites between a certain couple, I'm not that perverted!

Bad Girls is a very hard-hitting drama which definitely makes Prisoner Cell Block H look like cheese. Bad Girls manages to keep the script real and deals with everything that we don't see within the real prison life: bullies, affairs within inmates and the staff, the deceit we see within the staff...it's all included in the first series, which I believe is the best series...hey, you can never beat the first, right?

DVD FEATURES

Documentary

This is a pretty interesting piece, as we see cast members from the show talk about how they got research for the show, this we see that things REALLY do happen in real prison as we see on the show...yes it's true, there's really a real-life Shell Dockley someplace in this country...ohh noooooooo.

Cast Interviews

Include only the main characters of the show, which is a shame, as it would have been nice to see interviews from the less popular charcters. Interviews from: Dockley (who is actually quite sweet in real-life, believe it or not!), Wade, Stewart, Fenner, Blood, etc.

Outtakes

This is probably the most amusing out of all the extras, it's nice to see the cast in an enlightening mood and basically messing around.

Fan Featurette

This is a feature off the Bad Girls Book signing which Mandana Jones (Nikki) and Simone Lahbib (Helen) took part in. Nothing much interesting, just some pictures.

Commentary Track

This is only for Episode 10...I have listened to this and really, I didn't find anything interesting about this as all the creators of the show were talking about was how prison life is like in real life and they didn't really discuss much about what was happening in the actual episode, which was a bit of a let down.

Photo Library

Yesssss, if you purchase this DVD, you can do like me and stare at Helen all day long.

Total Extra time = 73 Minutes.

Episodes:

***I've tried my hardest not to spoil things too much...I don't think I've let out too much information, but, you can never tell with me...***

Them And Us

The very first episode is probably the most shocking of them all. It starts when one of the girls has a serious health defect and the new Wing Governor (Helen Stewart) gets the blame. So, basically a riot ensues which starts off the whole relationship between inmate Nikki Wade and Helen. Elsewhere, Prison Officer Jim Fenner manages to literally take advantage of a young prisoner, Rachel Hicks.

Drug Wars

Introducing Zandra Plackett as a famous Junkie, who has returned to Larkhall once again, only to be faced with her ultimate ememies Shell Dockley and Denny Blood which leads to a rather shocking De-crutching (Denny puts on a rubber glove and smears it with butter, while fisting Zandra with it to get the drugs out from her *ahem*...that my friends, is a de-crutch...and it put me off butter for good ;). Shell bullies Rachel into dropping her arch ememy Nikki Wade into trouble with the Drugs Squad, which works much too Dockley's delight.

Love Rival

Fenner finds out how hard it is to keep his secret affair with Rachel, secret. Where we see him taken to the full limits until he explodes. New inmate Crystal Gordon arrives complete with her guitar (Kumba Awww, remmeber folks? ;). Zandra wants to marry her boyfriend Robin in prison, only to find out he has a secret life away from her, which ends up with Zandra stabbing him with a pen (go girl, innit!).

THE VICTIM

Zandra has some bad news, she's expecting a baby but she wants an abortion. At the clinic, Zandra is anxious, wearing handcuffs she shouts out: "Why do you think they call them SCREWS FOR?" (I love her character!). Things take a surprise turn though, as she vanishes from the clinic. Elsewhere, Dockley is still bullying Rachel and tells her that if she doesn't bring drugs in she will kill her, which leads to Rachels' horrifying and goryfying death. And Nikki finds out some bad news from her girlfriend.

Tangled Web

Fenner and Dockley are both in deep s**t over the death of Rachel and they both desperate to set their stories stright with each other before facing examination. Helen is starting to get suspicous over Fenner's and Dockleys' affair and tries to confide in Nikki over her suspicions. Zandra starts balckmailing her Officar, Lorna, which she feels she has no choice apart from answer Zandras demanding requests.

A BIG MISTAKE

Officer Fenner and Hollamby are still blaming Helen for the death of Rachel and are putting her down as a bad Govenour to the wing. Helen and Nikki's relationship starts to bloom while they both flirt with each other and Nikki finds herself smitten with her new love interest. New inmate Jessie arrives much to the horror of Denny, who suddenly finds her past flashing before her eyes. Shell finds out all about Zandra's blackmail plot and joins in on the fun.

Playing With Fire

Dominic finds drugs in Dockely's cell, which were brought in by Officer Rose, Shell keeps a tight lip and admits it was her fault, but while she's forced to lose all her privileges, Dockley starts plotting the ulitmiate revenge on Officer Rose. Nikki takes her relationship to the limit with Helen where we see Nikki challenge Helen: "You want to know what this is about?" Then grabbing Helen's hand and placing it on her breast, she cries out: "It's about THIS!." Opps. My DVD is skipping like mad because I keep over-playing this scene...only kidding.

Falling Apart

Monica has some bad news about her son. The Julies make some home-made wine, which they hide in Nikki's shed. Shell finds out and tells Fenner, which leads to Fenner being humiliated and tells Shell that she better not make a fool of him again or else. Helen tells Nikki that even if she were attracted to her, that she couldn't have a relationship because she is in charge of her as her prisoner, which sees Nikki telling Helen to forget it and slams the door. Awwww.

Pay Back Time

Shell sets Lorna up good and proper, which sees Lorna lose her job and being arrested. But her popularity suffers terribly badly with the other girls because of it...she turns to Fenner who in return has nothing to say to her expect a smack in the face, literally. New imate Yvonne Atkins arrives...the wife of a famous gang leader and she takes no time in showing everyone that she is the new top dog and wastes no time in letting everyone know, especially Dockley, that no-one messes with her.

Love Hurts

Helen is deeply upset because she feels she cannot cope with all that has happened and being Wing Governor she feels she can't control what is happening. She turns to Nikki for comfort and finds herself submitting to Nikki's charms as they share a kiss...(awwwwwwww) even though Helen knows it's the wrong thing to do (awwww, again). Helen ends things with her boyfriend and with a big ending, we find out that maybe Helen will never be returning to Larkhall again, thanks to the humiliating confrontation with her boyfriend. And Shell plots revenge on Fenner, by writing a letter all about their affair to...none other than his own wife! Oopps again.

Total Episode Running Time = 482 minutes.

Overall

The box-set is very good if you are a big fan of Bad Girls or if you are interested in purchasing this set. The DVD set is very worth buying, as it has got the extras on it. You can find this set at all good shops (Woolworths and WHSmiths) for under $39.99...don't worry folks, I'm not turning American, my pounds sign just doesn't work, so don't downrate me just for that, ok? Or I'll report you.

I hope I didn't spoil too much off this for you...I defintly strongly agree that you check this programme out if you like a good hard-hitting drama, mixed in with a little bit of comedy (God bless, Bodybags). And I'm sure a lot of you guys out there would enjoy watching Shell Dockley walking around in those tight tops ;).

PS: The new series should be returning in May...Dockley returns and Stephine Beechman is joining the cast as well as Alma from Corrie...I don't think I was even around to remember both of those. ;). Yes, I was being sarcastic.
