I first caught a glimpse of this film in 95, only really knowing Will Smith from his Fresh Prince of Bel-Air days. Little was i to know the impact this action comedy would have on not only me but a multitude of friends and its overall audience. I think the trailers and the Diana King 'Shy Guy' music video helped the promotion a lot and because 'Shy Guy' was so successful in the charts back in the day, people wanted to watch the film. The plan to partner Will Smith and Martin Lawrence together by producer Jerry Bruckheimer, was definitely a good one. You can see the chemistry between them and they share the same sense of humour, some of which you can see improvised in the film. Picking the two though was somewhat seen as a risk as neither were major players on the movie seen, Martin Lawrence had appeared in a few, most notably Boomerang where as Will Smith played some roles in Tv films but was most noted for his rapping as the Fresh Prince and the successful spin off tv show. However the risk paid off and what came out was one of my favourite ever films and a classic among a wide range of people. Even my mum and dad like it!!

$100 million worth of heroin is stolen from a police vault inside the station, on discovering this, detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey realise the heroin stolen was from their biggest ever drugs bust. Rumours circulate that the likelyhood that this could have been an inside job are high and internal affairs give the department 5 days to find the stolen drugs or the narcotics division will be shut down. Captain Howard gives Burnett and Lowrey the job to uncover who did this. After stumbling across a witness, who is connected to Mike through a mutual friend, the guys do all they can to protect her and locate the mastermind behind the theft. Doesnt sound too much like a comedy at the moment does it, that the action part done!! Julie who knows of Lowrey will only deal with him but when she calls into the police station, Mike is nowher to be seen, leaving Burnett to pick up the witness impersonating Mike with hilarious consequences. Luckily for Julie,Burnett and Lowrey have a relationship which goes deeper than just being police partners, they are best friends and act like an old married couple at times. 5 days to find the drugs, locate the criminals, protect their only witness and deal with their own comedic issues.

Mike Lowrey (Will Smith, Independance Day) is a flash, good looking, confident guy who loves going to work for the adenaline rush. A proper action junkie. He has been left money by other family members so is well off and doesnt need to be risking his life in the narcotics division of the Miami police department. He is a ladies man, as you can imagine Will was in his younger years and shares a special relationship with Marcus

Fouchet (Tcheky Karyo, Kiss of the Dragon)is the boss of a crime gang, suspected of stealing the drugs from the police vault. Always an angry character, he is very possessive of his new fortune and uses fear to control his soldiers.

TECHNICAL STUFF -
