Back to the Future in a science fiction adventure made in 1985 directed by Robert Zemeckis (who also directed Forrest Gump) and stars Michael J. Fix and Christopher Lloyd.
Marty McFly (Fox) is an ordinary 17yr old, except for one thing; he has a rather eccentric friend, Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown (Lloyd). One night, he invites him to the local mall in the middle of the night. Marty, being curious, agrees. When he arrives he is met by Doc, who shows him a modified DeLorean car which he says has been made into a time machine. It uses Plutonium to create a nuclear reaction that to generate the power needed to travel through time, and this will only happen once the car reaches 88 miles an hour. Doc shows Marty the time circuits and programs in 1955. Suddenly Libyan terrorists arrive, looking for their Plutonium. They kill Doc, so Marty jumps in the car and tries to evade them. Eventually he hits 88 miles an hour and is hurled back in time to 1955.
Obviously he is very confused, and shocked that Doc was actually telling the truth. While he is there he bumps into his father, makes his mother fall in love with him, and has to get them back together for the "Enchantment under the Sea dance" so they fall in love and eventually conceive him. Along the way, he also manages to invent Rock N' Roll and the skateboard.
This is probably one of the only films that could be classified as being universally loved, I've never met anyone who could say a bad word about it. It's just pure fun from start to finish. The acting is great, and especially Doc and Marty have great chemistry together, they're almost like the odd couple, or father and son.
The story is quite serious really, but there's a lot of fun injected into it. As we know it's the past we can laugh when the characters say something that we know in the future is wrong, and a lot of laughs can be had that way. There are action scenes which are tense and exciting but never veer too far away from the overall fun of the film. The music is of course legendary and very well known, and fits the film perfectly, being up-tempo, happy and, yes, I'll say it again, fun!
Overall a hugely entertaining film and definitely a "must-see", if you've lived in a cave for your entire life and haven't actually watched it yet(!), five stars!
