Before I start I would just like to say I'm not going to be reviewing individual content of this box set in the review as I will be doing separate reviews for each part as this box set is HUGE.
This is a must for any Babylon 5 fans out there that are yet to purchase any of the DVD's, the box set simply comprises every episode or film ever made of Babylon 5 or its follow on series Crusade. These are all available separately but you save a fortune buying them in one hit, as well as having a lovely storage / display box for them.
Babylon 5 is the story of an Earth space station set 200 year into the future, 10 years after a great war between mankind and the alien race the minbari. The idea is that the space station Babylon 5 is a place where the main five races in the universe can have a semi-neutral ground to represent their home worlds.
The series started in 1993 and at the time the special effects of the space craft were unique in as much as they were all computer generated using Lightwave software (which was the popular choice at the time by computer animation experts), this was all way before Pixar and the like started their full length movie animations. Although by modern standards these graphics seem somewhat dated (as you now see ingame graphics like this on the Xbox 360 and the likes) the general design and overall feel of the space scenes is still fantastic. Each race have their own designs which are manipulated to make different class of ship ranging from the shuttles to the battle destroyers.
The story lines improve thought the series each one building up to a fantastic final couple of episodes. The films fill in some blanks that are left here and there and Crusade continues where Babylon 5 finished.
The box set contains the following titles:
Babylon 5 - The Gathering (Pilot episode) Babylon 5 - Season 1 Babylon 5 - Season 2 Babylon 5 - Season 3 Babylon 5 - Season 4 Babylon 5 - Season 5 Babylon 5 - The Beginning Babylon 5 - Third Space Babylon 5 - Call To Arms Babylon 5 - River Of Souls Crusade - Season 1 Crusade - Legend Of The Rangers
In total you get almost 100 hours of Babylon 5 comprising of 110 episodes of Babylon 5, 13 episodes of Crusade and 6 movies. If you hunt around as I did you can get all of this for just under £120 considering each series cost between £30 and £45 this is a huge saving. As I said earlier in the review I will be doing separate reviews of the films and the series as and when I have watched them so please check back for more in-depth reviews on them.
If you want to know any more details please let me know via a comment and I will update this review with the information you've asked for.
