Main characters
Baby Bink is played by twin brothers, Adam Robert Worton and Jacob Joseph Worton. Their natural performances made the film very appealing. However it was their first and last appearance on screen.
Lorraine Cotwell, Baby’s mother, is played by Lara Flynn Boyle. She is an American film and television actress. She has had a number of movie roles and the best known for her performance in Twin Peaks.
Kidnapper 1 Eddie is acted by Joseph Mantegna. He is an American Tony Award-winning actor, producer, writer and director. He is best known for his roles in box-office hits such as Three Amigos (1986), The Godfather Part III (1990), Forget Paris (1995), Up Close & Personal (1996), and The Simpsons Movie (2007).
Kidnapper 2 Norby is performed by Joseph Pantoliano. He‘s also an American film and television actor. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal as Cypher in The Matrix.
Kidnapper 3 Veeko is portrayed by Brian Carlo Haley who is an American actor and stand-up comedian. He made his name in this film.
Director
The film is directed by John Hughes. He was born in 1950 and died in August 2009. As a famous American film director, producer and writer he scripted some of the most successful films of the 1980s and 1990s, including Home Alone and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Also there is a short film on the disc, which explains some behind-the-scenes information, such as the drug problems of the twins playing Bink and the typical promotional fluff, etc.
My opinion
I quite like the film. It made me laugh and relax. I can’t say it’s as good as Home Alone, but you can tell it is made by same director because of the style. The first half of the movie was very good and imaginative, particularly when the baby was playing at a zoo. However the story got a little dull when Baby Bink was chased by the three kidnappers on a construction site. This scene went on too long and I became a little bored. In contrast to this the film seemed finish abruptly. The ending of the film seemed to hint at a sequel Baby’s day out in China. However after 15 years it still has not been made.
Overall it’s a quite good film and suitable for family viewing. However it has been copied by too many subsequent movies. This has made Baby’s Day Out less appealing.
