I was curious what Sam Mendez would do after Revolutionary road,a film that i thought was well told. I was rather unimpressed with his American beauty but after watching Revolutionary road and now Away we go,i have to say he knows what he is doing!

The not so young couple have a few options and the treatment of the film somehow invites the audience to accompany them through their journey. Its a journey you don't mind taking, mainly due to the presence of such interesting characters. The character of Verona's ex-boss is truly hilarious and depicts a dysfunctional family in a lighter mood. We are then introduced to a rather annoying Lily(played well by Maggie Gyllenhaal) and her mad theories about life and parenthood. The dialogues are perfect and realistic;funny in the regular daily life basis.
The film reaches a high when they move to Montreal where there college friends live.Their story somehow manages to touch and move you and you realise that the film has actually gone to a different height altogether. This is a simple film, beautifully told with lots of emotions. The performances are realistic and it seems like they are a couple in real life. The ending is very fitting and will leave you with a small smile.Parents and soon to be parents will love it more! The soundtrack deserves a special mention here,it is soothing and goes completely with the feel of the film.
This is a beautiful journey you won't mind joining!
Advantages: A interesting story which is both funny and moving Disadvantages: Not a film everyone would enjoy
I saw this film recently and I really liked it. It is quite a quirky film, which is funny and touching at the same time.
The film is based around two main characters in their 30s, Burt and Verona (played by John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph). Verona falls pregnant, completely unplanned, and then Burts parents make the surprise announcement that they are moving to Belgium.. 3 months before the baby is born. This news rocks the couples world, the only reason that they moved to that area was to be close to Burt?s parents. Veronas parents died many years ago, which she doesn?t like to talk about, and now they have nothing keeping them there, neither of them are in jobs they want to do and they live in a small, dingy flat where the lights keep going out. They make the decision to travel around America visiting family members and friends to ...
Advantages: A good intro to Bob and his team. Encourages teamwork. Disadvantages: None.
I know it's sad but I wanted this DVD as much as the children did. So knowing we were goingaway for a couple of weeks to a little retreat and a bit of peace and quiet I bought this DVD in order to hopefully help with that plan.
I bought the DVD in Tesco, for around £15, as at the time it was new in the charts. Prices will vary and go up and down according to what offers are on so it is worth having a look about either in the high street or online..
In case you have not come across him before Bob, an animated character, is a builder. His owns his own builders yard and has a number of mechanical team members to help him on his jobs. These include, Scoop the digger, Muck the bulldozer, Dizzy the cement mixer, Lofty the crane and Roley the steamroller. He also relies heavily on his friend, and PA Wendy. A couple of other characters ...
Advantages: Good Fun Disadvantages: Doesn't Last Long Enough
have a go. He said it would be a good change.
On went the TV, the DVD player, the comfy pillow onto the sofa, the bottle of wine glugging gently down his throat and me say wondering what I had gotten myself into.
When you first get the DVD in you get a basic screen with a picture very similar to that on the case. I would describe it but Ciao have a picture of it - so look at the top of the screen!
Then you get the menu. Quite easy really - select the number of players, how many rounds and what difficulty you want it to be and away you go.
Up comes the first question and you hit the button for the corresponding answer on your DVD remote. Easy peasy. But then we all know how addictive easy things can become. Remember Tetris?
The questions are pretty much general knowledge and you have 3 difficulty settings. Although I can ...

Review
[Rudolph] gives a wonderful turn that is certainly the best work of her career (Box Office, 11/12/2009)
Burt and Verona are two characters rarely seen in the movies: thirtysomething, educated, healthy, self-employed, gentle, thoughtful, whimsical, not neurotic and really truly in love (Chicago Sun-Times, 11/12/2009)
The lead couple are so charismatically written and played that even an uneventful trip on a train becomes high comedy... Krasinski is effortlessly likable as Burt, but Rudolph is a knockout... a charming look at one of today's best directors cheerfully cutting loose (Empire, 11/12/2009)
A gilded entry in the cinema du quirk. It's a movie that invites you, all too often, to feel superior to the people on screen. Yet it's been designed, shot, and edited with unusual finesse, and the two main characters are fresh screen types (Entertainment Weekly, 11/12/2009)
Krasinski's 'baby stroller blow-up' is acted with genuine anarchic spirit, and Rudolph gets a nice monologue under an orange tree toward the film's end (Film Comment, 11/12/2009)
[The] production values have a nice, grassroots texture, including Ellen Kuras' cinematography and John Dunn's costume design (Hollywood Reporter, 11/12/2009)
Some of the episodes are ripely satirical, others almost heartbreaking (New Yorker, 11/12/2009)
Rudolph, a comic force on [SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE], can speak volumes with the tilt of an eyebrow. She and Krasinski, of THE OFFICE, are absolutely extraordinary. Ditto the film, which sneaks up and floors you (Rolling Stone, 11/12/2009)
Few movies deal with feelings this profound with as much restraint as Mendes and his crew display here (TV Guide, 11/12/2009)
John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph are one of the most appealing and believable screen couples to star in a romantic comedy. Not only do they project chemistry, but they adeptly switch between broad comedy and poignancy, sometimes in the same scene (USA Today, 11/12/2009)
[The film] feels like a respite from the false happily-ever-afters of most mainstream movies... The appeal of AWAY WE GO is heightened by its two stars (Washington Post, 11/12/2009)
DVD Description
When slacker thirtysomething couple Burt (John Krasinski) and Verona (Maya Rudolph) discover that his parents are moving overseas, the duo--who expect their first child in a few months--set off on a cross-country tour to figure out where they should lay down some roots in Sam Mendes' poignant comedy AWAY WE GO. They visit a number of different cities, and meet with a different friend or family member's family at each stop. Their hosts include a set of emotionally detached parents (Allison Janney and Jim Gaffigan), a pair of overprotective new-age parents (Maggie Gyllenhaal and Josh Hamilton), and old college pals (Chris Messina and Melanie Lynskey), who have adopted a number of kids. Novelist Dave Eggers wrote the script with Vendela Vida.
