Apologies for the lack of opinions lately. I've been on holiday and had a spot of writers block. I'm not entirely happy about the new scheme for rewards, but I should still be writing again soon. :)

A really good comedy is made up of several factors. ‘The Spy that Shagged Me’ has them all. Good use of music, sight gags, spoofs (from James Bond to Star Wars), a truly wonderful script and laughs that are pulled off well by the actors playing the parts. I suppose it’s only funny in a stupid way, but despite reputation, most of the jokes aren’t that crude, and I loved every moment.
Mike Myers plays Austin, the shagadelic special agent from the swinging 60’s, who is literally frozen in time, only to be awoken in the 1990’s, still trapped in 60’s way of thinking and fashion sense... Austin, although he’s in no way a sex-God, is seemingly irresistible to women. This time round he catches the attention of fellow secret agent, Felicity Shagwell (“Shagwell by name, shag very well by reputation”), played by Heather Graham.
Austin’s nemesis, Doctor Evil (also played by Myers), returns this time with two new side-kicks, a dwarf clone he names ‘Mini-Me’, and a disgusting Scottish bloke who goes by the name of ‘Fat Bastard’ (Mike Myers again). In his latest ploy to take over the world, Dr Evil holds Washington DC at ransom, threatening to blast the city with his “moon laser” if the president doesn’t pay him 100 billion dollars. To prevent Austin getting in the way he goes back in time to steal the frozen Austin’s mojo (his “essence of life”).
Luckily, Austin has also been built a time travelling device allowing him to go back to 1969 to get his mojo back and save the world.
The film follows on from the first Austin Powers movie, with Austin on his honeymoon with Vanessa (Liz Hurley), who turns out to be a robot with machine gun breasts. When I first saw this at the cinema I hadn’t seen the prequel, but I still understood it all and enjoyed it. The storyline is so simple that you certainly don’t need to have seen the ‘Austin Powers – International Man of Mystery’
‘The Spy That Shagged Me’ also sees the return of Scott (Seth Green), Dr. Evil’s bratty son, who spends most of the film sneering at his Father’s daft plans to take over the world and who, I might mention, is very cute. ;) The other characters are original, but very silly. Scott is probably the most believable and the source of many laughs (particularly when he and his Father go on the Jerry Springer show).
The acting standard is about average. None of the cast stands out as truly excellent. Heather Graham is OK, but I get the feeling she was cast more for her looks than her talent. Seth Green is a fairly talented actor, and so is Mike Myers. He takes three parts in this movie – that certainly impressed me.
The soundtrack includes Madonna, Elvis Costello, REM and Mel B, among others. It’s mixed, but certainly highlights the groovy 60’s mood.
So, what makes this movie so great? Well, the main thing is that it’s just hilariously funny. The humour may not suit all tastes but I’d say the films fairly enjoyable if you’re looking to have a laugh.

Advantages: Supremely funny throughout. Myers is great as three of the top characters. Good sound track. Probably improves upon the original which is noval for a sequel. Disadvantages: maybe just a tad too similiar to the original
