Now, this DVD is an example of what a DVD should be like. Scrap all the DVD's that are released with a 'theatrical trailer' and 'interviews' that are actually just a two minute interview copied from a documentary made when the film was released.
Lets start with the actual film. Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me, is in itself a brilliant film starring one of the kings of comedy, Mike Myers. Mike plays the lead character Austin Powers, international man of mystery. Oh - he also plays Dr Evil, and Fat Bastard. It's a great set-up. There's no way that you can tell straight away its the same person. Heather Graham stars as Agent Shagwell, assigned to assist Austin.
Heres the basic plot for those who have not seen the film (carry onto next paragraph if you do not want to know). Whilst on his honeymoon with his wife, Austin realises that she is actually a fembot, a gift from Dr. Evil. After she tries to kill him, she self destructs. We then see Dr. Evil is still alive, orbitting the Earth. We then visit his secret lair, to find that his 'evil' company have taken over a coffee company, where their 'evil' headquarters are located. While Dr. Evil's been away, they have cloned 'Mini Me', a perfect clone of Dr Evil, although only 1/8 or Dr Evils size. Dr Evil then shows everyone his time portal, and goes back to the sixties to steal Austins mojo. He succeeds, and in the future Austin realises he can't live without it. He goes to the past and tries to reclaim his mojo.
There are a huge number of laughs throughout the film. In fact, I will go as far to say that you will laugh for 95% of the film. It really is that funny.
Now for the DVD. The picture is presented in letterbox 16:9 ratio, although it still gives good quality throughout the film. The film lasts for 91 minutes, and has English subtitles. Perhaps there could be more languages, but for an englishman, this is not necessary - at all. The extras on the disc are what makes the disc as special as it is.
When you insert the disc, and all the copyright and distributor information has been shown, you are taken to the main menu, which, if you let it play itself out, will have Austin greet you with different phrases, asking you to 'Make a selection love', 'Choose me baby', 'Click it. You're making me randy baby' and 'Are You Feeling Randy?', all recorded especially for the DVD. You have the option to Play Movie, Scene Selection, audio Options and Special Features. Upon clicking on the Special Features, Austin tells you that you are the naughty one. He then shows you all of the special features, including an excellent commentary by Mike Myers, a vast selection of 20 MINUTES!!!!! of deleted scenes - all so funny you wonder why they were taken out! A behind the scenes montage, three music videos, recorded especially, featuring Madonna, Mel B and Lenny Kravitz. Four theatrical trailers add to the special features, as well as extensive details on the cameos (including clips!) and a a full biography on the cast and crew.
Leave Austin 'doing his thing' in the special menu for about a minute, and Dr Evil's penis-shaped spacecraft carries Austin away leaving an 'Evil' menu. Click on this and you get a hidden Dr Evil menu, including the two videos performed by Dr Evil - "What If God Was One Of Us", and "Just The Two Of Us" - two hilarous performances on their own........
Well -what else can I say - this DVD is basically one of the best DVD's I've ever seen! Excellent film, and a superb set of extras to go with it. All I can say is roll on Austin Powers 3.

Advantages: Supremely funny throughout. Myers is great as three of the top characters. Good sound track. Probably improves upon the original which is noval for a sequel. Disadvantages: maybe just a tad too similiar to the original
