perfectly captures the nouveau shagadelic mood that Mike Myers's if-the-1990s-were-the-'60s sequel requires. With hints of the psychedelic pop that drove some of her best music between Like a Prayer and Bedtime Stories, this William Orbit collaboration could be a remix of a great lost Jackie DeShannon track. As for the rest of the dozen cuts, they split fairly predictably between the good (the Who, R.E.M., Costello/Bacharach, and Flaming Lips numbers), the bad (Lenny Kravitz's dull American Woman cover), and the whatever (Mel Scary Spice G's failed takeover of Cameo's Word Up). --Rickey Wright

Advantages: incredible array of extras - well thought out, good picture and sound quality Disadvantages: perhaps the film is the weak link
...my Christmas present DVDs – Austin Powers II – “The Spy who Shagged Me”. This being a DVD review, rather than an out and out film review, I do not intend to dwell overly on the plot of this film. So I will give you a very rough outline in a single paragraph and no more, before concentrating on the extras included on the DVD, as from my point of view, it is the extras on the DVD that convince you of whether you purchase the DVD or not, as well as ... ...Plot in one paragraph:
Austin Powers, frozen in 1967 and kept in a cryogenic state is unfrozen in the 1990s where he continues his swinging 60s way of life (Oh the care-free pre-AIDS era of swinging!). Ultimately the film once again revolves around Austin’s battle with Dr. Evil (who is also played by Mike Myers, who plays Austin himself!). This time, with the aid of a baddie of similar stature to Monty Python’s Mr. Creosote, a character known simply ...

Advantages: Supremely funny throughout. Myers is great as three of the top characters. Good sound track. Probably improves upon the original which is noval for a sequel. Disadvantages: maybe just a tad too similiar to the original
...it was not actually until Austin Powers was first shown on channel 4 that I first saw it. However it was well worth the wait as it is one very, very funny film. So funny in fact that it encouraged me to go out and buy the sequel soon after. This is a rarity for me, I only own about 10 films on video, but I am glad that I did folk out the cash as the film equals if not improves upon the original.
The Spy Who... is, of course, a comedy and just like ... ...the 2 main characters - Austin Powers and his arch enemy Dr Evil. He also plays an addition character in this film in the form of Fat bas***d.
Powers himself is a ‘spy' working for the ministry of defence. Originally from the sixties he now lives in the nineties due to being frozen in order to prevent Dr Evil from taking over the world in the future (watch the first film for more details on this). Although Austin is now a citizen of the nineties ...

...as with James Bond, the Austin Powers creators were faced with the challenge of how to beat the first film. While Bond followed Dr No with From Russia With Love, Austin Powers followed International Man of Mystery with The Spy Who Shagged Me. Could Austin beat the beast that is sequel hell or would everyone's favourite shag-a-holic end up being a total square?
Returning from his deep space exile, Dr Evil once more plots the downfall of mankind but ... ...back to 1969, and steal Austin Powers' mojo. With a lagging libido and no attractiveness to women, Powers would be helpless and the world would be forced to pay a hefty ransom less they face the awesome lethality of The Alan Parsons Project (aka a giant "laser"). With 1969 Austin frozen in cryo-genic suspension, Dr Evil's agents are easily able to steal the mythical mojo and reduce 1999 Austin to a shadow of his former self. What's an agent to do? ...

Shagadelic Review ofAustin Powers - The Spy Who Shagged Me DVDby

Advantages: Hilarious Disadvantages: Some crude jokes
...100 billion dollars. To prevent Austin getting in the way he goes back in time to steal the frozen Austin’s mojo (his “essence of life”).
Luckily, Austin has also been built a time travelling device allowing him to go back to 1969 to get his mojo back and save the world.
The film follows on from the first Austin Powers movie, with Austin on his honeymoon with Vanessa (Liz Hurley), who turns out to be a robot with machine gun breasts. When I first ... ...but I still understood it all and enjoyed it. The storyline is so simple that you certainly don’t need to have seen the ‘Austin Powers – International Man of Mystery’
‘The Spy That Shagged Me’ also sees the return of Scott (Seth Green), Dr. Evil’s bratty son, who spends most of the film sneering at his Father’s daft plans to take over the world and who, I might mention, is very cute. ;) The other characters are original, but very silly. Scott is ...

DVD Description
In his second screen adventure, British superspy Austin Powers must return to 1969, as arch-nemisis Dr. Evil has ventured back to that year and successfully stolen Austin's "mojo" (libido!) and set up an ultrapowerful cannon and aimed it at the Earth. With the help of gorgeous agent Felicity Shagwell, the newly single Austin must now not only contend with Dr. Evil, but also Evil's vicious, pint-size attack-clone, Mini-Me. Also in this installment, Evil's son, Scott, finds out who his mother is and Mike Myers stars as a third character, rotund Scotsman Fat Bastard. More raucous fun in the spirit of its 1997 smash predecessor.
