The film 'Goldmember' opens to Austin Powers, (Michael Myers ) zooming along in his colourful Union Jack 'Shaguar', followed by a 60's psychedelic dance sequence. This sets the tone of the third film from the fabulous stable of mock spy films which parody James Bond and other similar films in the 'Spy'genre. Austin 'Danger' Powers is a trendy spy from the 60s with a penchant for the ladies and he reels them in with lines such as 'You've got my mojo working' and 'Groovy baby' whilst having a real satirical swipe at the 'swinging 60's'. Austin 'Danger' Powers is a trendy and colourful 'International Man of Mystery' from London, who travels around in time in his mission to overcome evil.
Well as usual with these films of Austin Powers it isn't really about the plot, so expect little serious content here. This is a self parody, and a film within a film. The basic premise is that Doctor Evil, arch enemy to Austin Powers wants to destroy the world with his newly created weapon 'Preparation H' which he wants to send to Earth as a meteor to cause massive destruction and flooding, aided by his henchman 'Fat Ba*tard' who is a massive wrestler. In the meantime Dr Evil has also kidnapped Austin Powers father (Michael Caine) who Austin is desperately seeking out as he feels his father neglected him as a child and he needs to have the chance to build bridges. Then you have the baddie, 'Goldmember, whose private parts became solid gold due to a freak 'smelting accident'. It is decided that Austin will travel forward in time to 1975 to find his father and also, Goldmember and to stop the onslaught of 'Preparation H'!
I love the Austin Powers films and find them to be very funny indeed. They are extremely slick in their production and the adherence to the 60's period in costume and dance is spot on. This isn't a film to be over analysed but just to be enjoyed for what it is and hugely enjoyable it is too. Goldmember is a film within a film, so you have a pretty impressive cast list, not only of the main actors but also the cast which play these 'Cameo' characters within the film being shot. For example in the film of Austin Powers, 'AustinPussy', being another Bond reference, you have Danny Divito playing 'Mini Me' and Tom Cruise playing Austin Powers, though you don't actually get to see too many scenes shown with them in unfortunately.
The costumes are fabulous and loud with the disco, funk feel of the 1960's, and the various dances from the period are on display here giving the film an authentic feel. You have Beyonce Knowles playing 'Foxy Cleopatra' wearing a gold lame costume, with obvious reference to the James Bond film 'Goldfinger', who actually isn't too bad in her role. Also an unrecognisable Gwyneth Paltro, playing a sexy, swinging 60's babe which somehow didn't look quite right to me. Then there is Britney Spears wearing a leather shooting bra aimed straight at Austin. They engage in a shoot-off, Britney turns into a Fembot and Austin then enters into a hilarious display of dance, fight and song, whilst saying "Oops I did it again" and 'Groovy baby', 'I found my mojo', which Austin then uses to blow Britney to smithereens. -
Goldmember is a whole lot of fun and there are some great stand alone scenes to come out of it. The scene when Mini Me is eating chocolate at the board meeting is quality, as is, the scene in the prison when Dr Evil and Mini Me sing 'It's a hard knock life', done in a mixture between the original 'Annie 'the musical feel and pure rap as in the mix. The humour is clever and acted out brilliantly. Michael Myers is pure comedy genius and has come a long way from his 'Wayne's World' days. The first Austin Powers film 'International Man of Mystery' came out in 1997 and it wasn't a huge mainstream hit, though it did garner cult status and the subsequent follow on films have steadily gained the reputation that they deserve as excellent comedy parodies. 'The Spy Who Sh*gged Me', his second film was always going to be a problem in the United States, with a title like that, and it was simply billed as 'Austin Powers 2'.
Mike Myers is totally brilliant in Goldmember and he plays the parts of: Austin Powers, Dr Evil, Goldmember, and Fat B*stard. His characterisations are excellent and I never tire of watching him. He has a really cheeky, boyish quality to his acting which brings his films to life. There is real positive energy within the Austin Powers films. They are a little rude but never really offensive. I suppose that's why this one bears the 12 rating making it suitable as older 'Family viewing'. Verne Troyer is once again fantastic as 'Mini Me' and the sight of him in a baby carrier worn by Dr Evil was hilarious.
I think the Austin Powers films are extremely clever, tongue in cheek swipes at the huge spy films of the day and his treatment of gentle parody works extremely well both with the genre and the 60's era and everything else that he is sending up here. Goldmember is a tremendously well acted film by all concerned and Mike Myers wonderfully wicked sense of humour and quirky sense of fun gives the film a very watchable quality throughout. Amazing there have only been three films made in the series and I think we are well overdue for 'Austin Powers 4' some time very soon I hope. Or could this possibly be the last?. Now that would be a shame.-
'Michael Myers is an Emmy Award-winning British Canadian actor, comedian, screenwriter and film producer. He was a long-time cast member on the NBC sketch show Saturday Night Live in the late 1980s and the early 1990s and starred as the title characters in the film series Wayne's World, Austin Powers and Shrek'.

...in his third outing as Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery.
So whats new? To be frankly honest, nothing much. In fact I wont be the only here who thought that Myers switched into auto-mode or hit the rewind button whilst making this. Even on first view of the previews, it didn’t look promising! Sorry, I’m jumping ahead of myself. The plot. For the third outing, Myers returns as Powers, Dr Evil and Fat Bastard as well as the main title-bearer, ... ...many in the series of Austin Power films. Yes there’s the joke about women with names that sound rude. Yes, theres the shadow jokes again. Yes theres the usual pulling of faces and cheesy phrases (Oh Behave!). I could go on but you get my drift. Further into the film, I could almost sense the same tired jokes coming along. There are some funny moments though such as the opening sequence (which I wont spoil, you’d just have to see it) and Mini-Me ...

...the third installment of the Austin Powers franchise. I never saw the whole of the first, but have seen the second on video and thought it was very funny, especially the Dr. Evil/Scott Evil double act. I've lost nothing by watching the third, but like most sequels, and nearly all third installments, it's pretty tired and relies heavily on self-referential p**stakes and scatology to see it through.

... ...are the features that make Austin so funny and charming. There is a fairly grin-raising scene between them where they beat Cockney rhyming slang into submission, but it's downhill from there. It's just a shame there isn't more of Dr. Evil- the finely honed master criminal parody of the second film has given way to a minor plot device (and yet another musical number, coming to a chart near you) although it does lead to one of the better scenes, where ...

There ya go! The film started brilliantly, very funny! We had Tom Cruise as Austin Powers and many other well known actors and actresses representing other roles.

Austin has cracked two of Dr.EVILs previous plans and now he is onto his third. It isn't necessary to watch the first two films before this one but you may prefer to if you wish.

...up. It once again concerns Austin Powers who finally captures Dr Evil, only for his father (Nigel Powers) to be kidnapped by new villain, Goldmember. Dr Evil agrees to tell Austin where his father is in return for transfer to the prison where Mini- Me is held. Austin agrees and must travel back to 1975 to confront the strange Goldmember and once again thwart whatever evil plan is being hatched.
Predictably the story is more laboured than before ... ...(obviously) who plays four characters; Austin Powers, Dr Evil, Fat Bastard and Dutch baddie Goldmember. Performance wise, Mike Myers is less funny as Austin and Dr Evil whilst Fat Bastard is in no danger ...

...ciao members have completely rubished Austin Powers in Goldmember, the third installment in the Powers saga. They say it has let the side down, that it stretches the franchise too far, and that it's just plain not funny!

to place a tracking device on him to lead them to Dr. Evil, some news that Austin does not take well.
The film is a quest for Austin to rediscover his mojo so he can finally enjoy his relationship with Felicity as well as stopping Dr. Evil from taking over the world. This will even lead to a rather odd moon hideout finale. It's Hollywood though, they can do what they want. If this all comes together the way Austin wants it to it should be a perfect ending, now what do you think will happen?
Finally comes the finale to the trilogy with AustinPowers: Goldmember. Clearly a spoof on the James Bond title. So will this finally be it for AustinPowers and Dr. Evil's rivalry that has been spread over 5 years (1997-2002) or about 40 years in their time? I could understand three Adam Sandler films on one boxset or the three Austin Power films together but i'm just not getting it???
You will probably save a pounds in buying it like which is always good but if you're like me i put my DVD's in some kind of order i.e all my Adam Sandler films together which i doubt you could do with this.

With three separate dvds this was a very well recieved christmas present. They were definately the best films that i saw last year. AustinPowers is a spoof of James Bond and the films have brilliant plots and excellent jokes. When i was ill it really did make me feel a lot better. The box set is rated 15 but two of the three DVDs suitable for people 12 years old. For these prices i would say that they were bargains, and i just cant get enough. Each film includes film commentaries and deleted scenes. There are 7 music videos over 2 DVDs (none on the other) and biographies of the cast on 2 of the DVDs. I would reccomend this DVD box set to anyone with a good sence of humor! ...

DVD Description
AUSTIN POWERS IN GOLDMEMBER, the third movie in the Austin Powers series, stars Mike Myers in director Jay Roach's James Bond Sci-Fi 1970s funkadelic formula--a hyper-stylized backdrop to what is ultimately Myers' one-man show. GOLDMEMBER is a family affair. Austin has a few unresolved issues with his dear old dad, Nigel Powers (the dead ringer Michael Caine, who is also a good sport), and he hopes to work out some Freudian tension when he's not saving the world from the forces of evil. Myers flexes his actor muscles and portrays a more thoughtful, and--is it even possible--a slightly less geeky Austin in this film. Likewise, even the bad guys show some new personality: Dr. Evil reveals a penchant for talking like a hip-hop, wise-ass homeboy, and the new villain Goldmember (the latest in Myers' repertoire) is an enigmatic amputee with a heart of gold who speaks with a Dutch accent and eats his own peeling skin. If that's not disgusting enough, Fat Bastard, the greasy behemoth from THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME, appears again in GOLDMEMBER, delving into new and nasty scatological territory. But the joke's on us, because GOLDMEMBER's toilet humour is so extreme that it dissolves into a harmless fit of giggles, keeping viewers laughing from start to finish.
