...I've heard a lot of negative opinion by this film but why? It is so funny and I laughed my way through the whole film. Some scenes are a bit exagarrated but it is fun. Whether you are white, asian, or black this film definitely breaks down the barriers of racism. It also portrays the racism behaviour of some people in a hilarious way. If you don't understand asian culture come and see this film it does definitely show what it is like being an asian. It is great to see a british film with asian actors in. This film is a must for all people with a sense of humour....

Advantages: Good Story, Some Good Acting Disadvantages: Could Have Been Directed Slightly Better
...Romper Stomper, is an Australian film showing the last days of a racist neo-Nazi skinhead gang in Melbourne, this movie exploits the frustration, anger and violence of a aggressive subculture.
The storytelling is immaculate, it's maybe the directing that lets it down. By trying to mix the obvious violence that's involved, with portraying the characters in a way so you may relate, you get a film where you can have no moral standing.
Violence appears in opening scene, in which the Nazi gang stomp a smaller group of Vietnamese youth in a subway station. The gang, led by the coldly charismatic Hando (Russell Crowe), is obsessed with Asians, particularly south eastern ones, who have taken over sections of Melbourne and are taking over business after business, including the gang's home bar. Their response: a good kicking, accomplished...

Advantages: Wind up of every Asian Family everywhere! Disadvantages: none!
...I'm Asian myself so when i heard about East is East, i'd already missed it at the cinema so i bought the DVD.
I wasn't disappointed, i enjoyed this film thoroughly because it took the mickey out of Asian families and trying to combine east and west cultures. The characters remind you of various members of your family or extended family or their extended family!!.........and the way the film deals with issues such as violence, mixed raced children, sexuality, religion and culture does make you think of what it was like for many Asian families in the 60's.
Extras include deleted and alternative scene, interviews with the cast and there is a directors commentary too! Loads of bits and pieces!
Some of my family have seen it and they all laugh so i think it's meant to be funny and not offensive to Asians on the whole....
