King Arthur
Review of King Arthur DVD by  Paradis

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: None

...Someone said, 'Throw away the history books, Jerry Bruckheimer's in town', and it is true, Bruckheimer is well known for being an over the top producer. Antoine Fuqua and Jerry Bruckheimer get to grips with telling the untold true story that inspired the legend. ok, King Arthur is not proven to be history anyway, but a legend it certainly is, and this is the stuff of legends are made of: Lancelot and Guinevere, Gawain and Galahad, Knights in shining armour, complete with magical sword and the Holy Grail, and using Ireland for the England sets and locations. You certainly won't get the most authentic story from this movie. Hey! this is Hollywood, remember? The legend of King Arthur is one of Britain's greatest myths, and the movie is supposedly based on archeological evidence concerning the real nature of King Arthur during the time... Read review

The King Has Left The Building...
Review of King Arthur DVD by  Collingwood21

Advantages: Good costumes; Stunning scenery; It eventually finished
Disadvantages: Poor historical research; Predictable plots; Clumsy scripting

...possible in the era portrayed), and the cast look potentially promising, even given the surprise of the lead being handed to the permanently on-the-edge-of-stardom Clive Owen. So, after a week of ignoring all the reviews warning me to run the other way, I went to see it for myself. “King Arthur” is set in Northumbria in the early 400s AD. For those of you unfamiliar with the Arthur myth, there are basically two strains of it – the medieval Arthur with all the accompanying chivalry and Holy Grail stories that I suspect a lot of you will be most familiar with, and the earlier 5th/6th century AD version that usually features Arthur fighting against Saxon invaders to Britain. It is generally agreed by historians that the chivalrous Arthur is a later embellishment on the earlier stories, and the thinking is that any real Arthur was likely to have... Read review

Arise, King Arthur of.....Southern Russia!
Review of King Arthur DVD by  tom_very1st

Advantages: Some good battle scenes, and attempts at finding some sort of historical context
Disadvantages: Poorly cast (to mention just one)

...from almost dying to looking stunning in the space of a couple of days (although this is the directors fault and not hers). The other parts seem to be reasonably well cast, particularly Ray Winstone as Bors (i was impressed with him), with his occasional comical scenes. However, there could have been much finer actors in the positions instead. I must also question the roles of the characters. Merlin (who to me always seemed the third/fourth most important character of the myth of king Arthur) only had three lines in the whole film. Then there was the affair of Guinevere and Lancelot -wasnt this key?! Right negativities over, and in terms of positive aspects the film was quite well made. Full credit to the costume department whos efforts did not go unnoticed (great costumes). There were some good scenes where you felt that the film... Read review
