A season review of the final season at Highbury, our beloved home of 93 years. It was also the season in which we reached the final of the Champions League for the first time in our history, only to tragically lose out after going down to ten men.
In the league, we struggled to reach fourth place, needing a win on the final day to overtake Spurs. We were inconsistant away from home, and lost to teams we really should have beaten. If not for Thierry Henry and Jens Lehmann, who excelled themselves at the front and the back respectively, we would doubtless have been out of CL football for the following season.
However, this was a historic season which makes this a DVD well worth getting. Firstly, because you can rewatch the highlights from our Champions League run. All the victories are here, over the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus, and of course the penalty save against Villarreal that made Jens Lehmann into an Arsenal hero. It also features highlights from the final, in which he was sent off, and Sol Campbell's goal.
It was also a historic season for several individual players. Thierry Henry became Arsenal's all time top scorer in this season, passing the previous record. At times, it seemed like they were just thinking up new records for him to break! This features all his amazing goals.
It was also the final season of Dennis Bergkamp, a player who will always be known as as Arsenal legend. The DVD features a special tribute to him, and some interview clips.
Finally, it was Arsenal's last season at Highbury. In the background of all our home matches you could see the clock counting down, and the DVD features extended highlights from the closing ceremony. As someone who remembers going there as a child, I have to admit that I felt very emotional watching it, as I'm sure all Arsenal fans did. It was nice to see them parade all our trophies, as a reminder of how much history we have.
Even if this wasn't the best season in terms of where we came in the league, it was an extremely historic and often sad one. It might not feature the dazzling play of the invincibles, or the excitement of seeing a Double won, but watching this DVD can still bring back the excitement of our CL run, and is a brilliant way of saying goodbye to our beloved Highbury.
