Following a report on Ciao by Dr. Pepper, I went in search of this film. I was looking for a decent film and others I knew had said it was a good movie, so up I stepped to see for myself. I wasn't dissappointed.
The story revolves around the rather overplayed plot of a meteor heading towards earth and the chance it is going to kill everything. Hence the name Armageddon. The earths politicians decide that the best way to save the world is to blow up the meteor before it comes crashing down on mankind.
The old idea does serve well in this film though, with the screenplay being done perfectly. The emotions in the film are a rollercoaster too, and those who dont feel a pang as the end comes ever closer must be heartless (especially when you consider the impending doom that is so well carried off by the cast.)
Its worth admiring the cast (not like that!). Bruce Willis plays superbly in the starring role, acting out his character with brilliant effect. Willis plays the guy who is the key to saving the earth from a meteor shower, a deep core driller who is more accustomed to drilling for oil than drilling a hole into meteors. Ben affleck is the most notable other name in this film as he races alongside willis in the attempt to rescue the world.
The special effects are also more than worth a mention. When the meteor arrives, the effects used are amazing, mesmerising in many respects. It's possibly one of the best sfx I have seen in a while. Many people will watch this film just to see them. I wouldn't say its the be all and end all, but the effects do bring it into a league of its own.
Overall, the plot moulds the film brilliant as it unfolds to reveal an emotional and climatic ending. The special effects are excellent, the soundtrack is good and the acting superb. I would give this film 10/10 any day.
