Directed by: Steve Carr Written by: Hank Nelken Genre: Comedy - Family Country: USA Certification: PG Language: English Released: 24th September, 2007 (DVD)
MAIN CAST:
Ice Cube (Nick Persons) Nia Long (Suzanne Persons) John C. McGinley (Chuck Mitchell, Jr.) Aleisha Allen (Lindsey Persons) Philip Daniel Bolden (Kevin Persons)
Following on the heels of 'Are We There Yet?', Nick and Suzanne are now married, and they, along with her two children, are living in Nick's cramped bachelor pad. When Suzanne tells Nick that she is pregnant, it becomes obvious that they will need a larger home.
Finding the perfect house in the country, one big enough to accommodate everyone, they jump at the opportunity. Unfortunately, the house is not in great condition, and small DIY tasks turn into major home improvements. The local wildlife seems intent on driving Nick crazy, but this is nothing compared to what the loopy contractor is doing to Nick's sanity.
For those of you who have seen 'The Money Pit', a 1986 movie starring Tom Hanks, 'Are We Done Yet?' will bring back memories, and you won't be able to keep yourself from comparing the two movies. There is this constant sense of déjà-vu, and although 'Are We Done Yet?' is a sweet little movie that an under 15 audience will love, it doesn't hold up against the likes of 'The Money Pit', and the laughs are far and few in between for the more mature viewer.
Although all the actors gave a good performance in this movie, one in particular stands out: John C. McGinley. Many of you will be familiar with his antics on 'Scrubs' as nutty Dr. Perry Cox, and his hilarious performance as a highway patrolman in 'Wild Hogs', but he has outdone himself in 'Are We Done Yet?', and gives a brilliant performance. Without McGinley, 'Are We Done Yet?' would have been one of this year's greatest comedy disappointments.
To be expected in this movie - goofy gaffes, innocent-looking animals with a vicious streak, and overdone gags that fall short of being funny.
I highly recommend, if a third movie is planned, that they call it 'Are We Bored Yet?' - I can guarantee that audiences around the world will be shouting 'YES'!

This has been posted in the category for the Blu-Ray DVD, but mentions nothing about the new format. Given that this has been posted in this specialised category, I would like to know about the quality of the new format.

I think I shall skip this one; if you like McGinley, you should also see his funny performance in OFFICE SPACE. Good review! Chris x

You are right about the third title, this is boring, but nice review.
When Nick (Ice Cube, Barbershop) falls for single mother Suzanne (Nia Long, Big Momma's ... more
House), he initially doesn't have to worry about what her kids think of him because she just wants to be friends. Undeterred by this, Nick keeps hanging around, so ...
Advantages: Light hearted family entertainment so nothing to trouble the mind too much Disadvantages: Just not good enough falls short in many departments, I wouldn't lend it

Review of Are We There Yet? (DVD)
Advantages: Will appeal to most people under the age of about 12 or 13 Disadvantages: If you were hoping to watch an Ice Cube film you'll be let down, he's nowhere in sight
