The dvd is 50 mins long but the actuall workout i would say last for about 30 mins and 10 are spent at the start where they are talking and then about another 10 on positions to try in labour.

With my first 2 children i didnt really do much exercise apart from alot of walking but now iam 18 weeks pregnant i decided i wanted to stay as fit as possible for the coming months. With this in mind i looked around the internet at different sites such as amazon and play.com for some good pregnancy workouts. Ive never done yoga to be honest iam more of a get the heart rate up and sweat a little kinda girl but with being pregnant that was not really an option, so i decided to give yoga a go.
I found this dvd on ebay and i only paid £5 and £2 postage. The lady i bought this from stated she bought it but had never ever watched it so it was basicly brand new so i got a bit of a bargin there.
When the dvd arrived i was very excited as i was feling a little chubby and unfit so i could not wait to get started. The look of the dvd is very modern with a young girl on the cover in great shape and pregnant wearing very nice sports gear. It also states on the cover a comment from sally gunnell *British Olympic champion* saying that she used this workout and it helped her a great deal in pregnancy and birth.
So i went and found some sort of outfit suitible for yoga and my mini bump and popped the dvd in. When it started i was a little shocked because it looks as if it was filmed in the 80's to be honest the hair and the fashion on some of the women is worth a giggle, and they all seemed to be wearing tents in a nice flower power kind of pattern!!! lol. I thought this was strange because the cover would lead you to belive its a modern up to date workout but it is not. Not being put off by the 80's throw backs in front of me i thought oh well its the workout that matters not the way they look.
STARTING THE WORKOUT~ It starts with Kathy Tayler and Tricia Robinson sat at a table outside in what looks like very cold and dull weather talking about the benifits of yoga during pregnancy, tricia being a midwife and a yoga instructer is helpful when talking about the benifits. By this point i was thinking Hmmmm is this any good? but again i give it a chance and carried on. Then came the workout.....
It starts with calming breaths, you find tricia stood again outside with two heavily pregnant women wearing leggins and baggy husband t-shirts lol they then start the breaths and start to do small stretches with them to get you warmed up and relaxed. To be honest this just made me feel very dizzy and a bit bored there is not much more to say on it really as its very basic and that is all it involves. Right the way through the dvd kathy and tricia are talking in parts but they dont really say much that happens to be much help.
The workout then goes into different stretches all are very simple and easy to do but to be honest i dont feel them at all and it feels like you want to do more right the way through the workout. Its is very boring to watch, i understand to do yoga you need to be calm and they talk soft ect but this is just outright boring you may put up with it if the workout was good but even that bored me the whole time i was doing it.
After the stretches section you go down onto the floor for some more "intense" pelvic stretches. i could feel these work a little more than the others but again it was all very boring and to easy to do.
After alot of stretching positions you go into relax mode where you mentally stretch out every part of your body, i didnt like this at all i would rather actually stretch as much as allowed in pregnancy as it will benifit you more than pretending to stretch while laying on the floor bored.
They then go on to give you some positions for birth that to be honest i can see working and some people may find they will help. The big down side for me is that i have to have a c section as my first 2 children where born by emergancy c sections so this time i have no choice. The problem was that i wanted a dvd to help me keep fit during my pregnancy but this dvd seemed all about the birth and the stretches you learn right the way through help at birth, none of it really keeps you fit during pregnancy apart from maybe helping to reduce back pain but it will not help you stay in shape. Thats great if you want a dvd to help for birth but even then i would not recomend this one as iam sure there must be better out there.
OVERALL~ Everything about this dvd is bad in my opinion, the setting for the workout is dull and looks cold it does not invite you in and make you want to join in. The workout women dont say a word in the whole thing, it all seems very staged and not natural. The midwife trish scares me a little to be honest, she looks like the witch from the wizard of oz lol. Due to the outfits and the hair and the setting it all looks very dated and that makes me think am i getting the best workout ? if i had a more modern workout would the exercies be more advanced due to the fact that back in the 80's or early 90's whenever this was made yoga in pregnancy was not as common and i belive that workouts now will be more advanced and up to date. The talking over the workout annoys me as they dont really say anything of use they just babble on like friends would and its all very boring and dull.
Sadly this is my first yoga workout and it has put me off a little but i wont let it stop me trying a newer dvd but to be honest ive just found out davina has a pregnancy workout dvd so i will be buying that as iam already i huge fan of her workouts. My advice to anyone wanting to buy this dvd is dont!!! its just not worth it, spend the extra on a more up to date dvd and get the most out of it because you will get nothing from this dvd apart from one or two positions to try in birth and you would be able to find the same thing out at any antenatal class so its pointless. The dvd is 50 mins long but the actuall workout i would say last for about 30 mins and 10 are spent at the start where they are talking and then about another 10 on positions to try in labour.
I did not see this dvd on alot of sites i first came across it on ebay and like i said paid £5 for it but dont waste you money on it go and buy something else because i promise you after doing the workout you will be left feeling like you have wasted money, traveled back 20 years in a time machine, done no workout what so ever and bored.

Review of Antenatal Yoga - Relaxation And Exercise In Pregnancy (DVD)
Advantages: Positions for birth Disadvantages: Too much talking and not much yoga
I bought this DVD when I was pregnant with my first baby. I had done some yoga before but was not an expert and thought this looked like a good DVD to help me to stay in shape throughout my pregnancy. Wrong!
A word of warning to anyone who is buying this because of the picture on the front. This fit, young looking woman is nowhere to be seen on the DVD! The lady who actually appears on the DVD is middle aged and wearing what appears to be a curtain! ... ...I felt it was wrong to show an entirely misleading photograph on the cover.
The content of the DVD was also disappointing. Although it is quite helpful when watching it for the first time, a large amount of time is taken up by talking and chatting and not much devoted to actually doing any yoga. There are a few simple stretches but I found I couldn't be bothered taking the time to find them in between all the talking!
It does detail some good positions ...
