Having seen and loved the first ‘A Cinderella Story’ starring Hilary Duff ,, I just had to find out if the second movie lived up to the success of the first , and so as soon as I knew about the film , I bought the DVD.
Another Cinderella Story is a romantic comedy movie released in the United Kingdom on September 16th 2008. This film stars young actress and singer Selena Gomez (sometimes refereed to as Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montanta’s rival). The running time of this movie is ninety minutes (one and a half hours). This movie is a PG.
Everyone knows the fairytale story of Cinderella. Basically , this movie uses that fairytail as it’s plot.. Mary is a maid for her evil stepmother. At a ball , a guy dances with the girl of his dreams ; Mary. But will he ever see her again ? Watch another Cinderella Story to find out.
First of all , the thing I did as soon as this movie started was compare it to the first movie. I will be honest , when watching sequels , I prefer if the original cast members are in it. For example , as soon as Jason Biggs and Sean William Scott left the American Pie series , I went off the series completely. So with this one , I would have preferred if the original cast member had being present.. However , on the other hand , I do understand that there was ‘no where’ else for those particular characters in the first movie to go and so to enable a good second movie to take place , a set of fresh characters was needed. Although , I couldn’t get used to the new characters and was expecting Hilary Duff to pop up somewhere.
Because the first movie did well ; I feel bringing out a second movie was just ‘jumping on the bandwagon’ which was the success of the first movie ; in other words , any excuse to make money. It is quite obvious why young girls would fall into the trap of wanting to be like ‘the princess’ in the ‘fairy tale world’. Saying that , I do think that this movie is suitable for girls (and maybe some boys) under the age of twelve. However , teenagers may find it too ‘plain and simple’ and slightly childish ; definitely not as good as the first movie.
Secondly , I wasn’t that impressed with the new set of actors and actresses , especially Selena Gomez. I felt she played her part well , but I just couldn’t connect with her as a viewer , she also came across as slightly annoying , and by the end of it , I was sick of hearing her squeaky little voice. Her co-star and love interest in the film wasn’t much to write home about either. There wasn’t much chemistry between the two main characters either ; it was as though they were there to just arrive on set , say their lines and go. And so this I felt didn’t make the movie as believable as it could have been.
If you like your music , then you may well like this movie. It’s lively music and all the singing and dancing will definitely keep children interested for an hour or so. I myself did like a couple of the songs in the movie , although there were some which I thought ‘how cheesy’ when listening to them. Compared to the first movie this movie focuses a lot more on music ; the whole film is based on singing and dancing actually. Please note , there is also a soundtrack to the movie which you may be interested in.
I found I knew what was going to happen within a few minutes and so I found that the movie dragged on for a while when it was obvious what was going to happen the whole time.. I think even though it was quite clear , in terms of the events which were to take place , a couple of ‘twists’ wouldn’t have gone a miss , just to add some ‘spice’ to the movie to keep the viewers on the edge of their seats.
This movie is perfect for kids , not so perfect for teenagers!
