I recently aquired this Dvd,as I rememberd watching it with my mum when i was kid.
The Dvd opens with a story of the movies allmost non starter, this was due to the main character Judy Garland falling ill,but at the last minute up stepped Betty Hutton and a superb Annie Oakley was born.
Annie Oakley, a young Wild West Hillbilly teenage girl, aquired her skill for sharp shooting, via a basic need for survival for herself and her kin (family).
Whilst trying to peddle her game to a local hotelier,Buffalo Bills wild west show has come to town with its main star the dashing Sharp Shooter Frank Butler (Howard Keel). As part of the show, there is a contest for any local to compete against Butler in a Clay Pidgeon competition and the winner to gain $100,knowing Annie and her shooting abilities, the hotelier sees his chance to make a fast buck and pursuades Annie to enter, where she gives Butler a lesson in shooting skills.
Buffalo Bill pursueds Annie to join the show, but this then leaves her in direct conflict with Butler, who she becomes smitten on, the two become so hell bent on beating each other, they miss out on what really matters the fact that they have fallen in love. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and after Butler leaves for a rival company and Annie goes on a European tour, this soon becomes obvious to the pair.
Can Annie get her man as well as her gun? you bet ya'.
I really thought my teenagers wouldn't be interested in this film, but i was happily wrong, they loved it.
The film was based on a play produced by Irvine Berlin, and contains as well as others two great sing along songs, "Anything You Can Do," "Doin' What Comes Naturally," and "There's No Business Like Show Business."
It also won 1951 Academy awards for best music and scoring of a musical picture.
There is no extra's as such with the Dvd, just an introduction at the begining of how things came about eg: Betty Hutton.
A whip cracking family musical to be enjoyed by all, allthough a little bit dated.
