sharpshootin' funfest based on the 1,147-performance Broadway smash boasting Irving Berlin's beloved score, including Doin' What Comes Naturally, I Got the Sun in the Morning and the anthemic There's No Business Like Show Business. As produced by Arthur Freed, directed by George Sidney and seen and heard in a new digital transfer from restored elements, this lavish, spirited production showcases songs and performances with bull's-eye precision, earning an Oscar for adaptation scoring. The story is a brawling boy-meets-girl-meets-buckshot rivalry. But love finally triumphs when Annie proves that, yes, you can get a man with a gun!

This is a great plot, expressing the sexist views that some people have on society. The story of Annie Oakley, who is amazing at shooting, battles against a top shooter who runs a show and is better than him. It shows the love Annie has for Frank Butler, but the fact that he will not look at her because she is a girl who shoots instead of a girl who acts like an ornament. He also see's her as inferior as she is a woman, and women don't shoot in his opinion. This story follows Annie and Frank falling in love, but being each other's competiton. Their relationship is never boring with the constant competing with each other over everything in life, especially shooting. The arguments add to the fact that they fall in love. Annie and her brother and sisters are also looked down upon by society as they are not educated and cannot read and write like other people, but this does not knock their confidence in that they are as good as everyone else. We see the joining and separation of two shows battling with Frank and Annie, to see who is the best. All over a great plot with a happy ending. The sound track is amazing with memorable tunes such as ' there' no business like show business' that will be remebered. The directing adds realism and builds the characters. A great show with ammusement and a love story for everyone.
A musical for me should have a strong story and songs that have you singing along for days. It should also have a cast of strong performances and characters that you love from the start. For me therefore AnnieGetYourGun is the perfect musical as it certainly ticks all of these boxes as well as many, many more.
Anniegetyourgun was released in 1950 and stars Betty Hutton and Howard Keel in a sharp shooting adventure based on the fantastic Broadway performance.
AnnieGetYourGun is in short a boy-meets-girl story but the musical score and acting performances as well as the extremely well written script make it so much more than this. Annie Oakley (Betty Hutton) has spent her life "Doin' what comes naturally" that invariably means being your average country girl with a gun slung over her arm and a trail of brothers and sisters ...

buck and pursuades Annie to enter, where she gives Butler a lesson in shooting skills.
Buffalo Bill pursueds Annie to join the show, but this then leaves her in direct conflict with Butler, who she becomes smitten on, the two become so hell bent on beating each other, they miss out on what really matters the fact that they have fallen in love. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and after Butler leaves for a rival company and Annie goes on a European tour, this soon becomes obvious to the pair.
Can Annieget her man as well as her gun? you bet ya'.
I really thought my teenagers wouldn't be interested in this film, but i was happily wrong, they loved it.
The film was based on a play produced by Irvine Berlin, and contains as well as others two great sing along songs, "Anything You Can Do," "Doin' What Comes Naturally ...
Advantages: Make you feel warm inside Disadvantages: You realise you know all the show tunes
I always class this type of movie as the "Sickie". The kind of film yourmum puts on and makes you watch, while your laid up ill on the seatee. But in truth, through all the complaints of, "Do I really have to watch this, It's rubbish!". You know you enjoy it and it makes you feel warm inside. It's not long before your singing along to the show tunes.
Based on the true story of Annie Oakley, Frank Butler, Colonel Buffaol Bill and Chief Sitting Bull. AnnieGetYourGun, boasts a fantastic Oscar winning score, featuring songs you probably didn't even know were in this film.

DVD Description
Sharpshooter and star of Colonel Buffalo Bill's Show, Frank Butler (Howard Keel) falls for the spirited Annie Oakley (Betty Hutton) until she provokes him into a clay pigeon shooting competition. Unfortunately, Annie is left to realise a man isn't always interested in a woman who can beat him at his own game. The film is based on Irving Berlin's play and contains the songs 'Anything You Can Do', 'Doin' What Comes Naturally', and 'There's No Business Like Show Business'. The lively film was winner of the 1951 Academy Award for Best Music and Scoring of a Musical Picture. It should be noted that Judy Garland was originally cast to star in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, but fell ill and was replaced by Betty Hutton.
