History
The Anne of Green Gables Trilogy is made up of three videos; Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Green Gables The Sequel, and Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story. This film is the second in the set Anne of Green Gables The Sequel.
Lucy Maud Montgomery a Canadian writer is responsible for the novels on which the first two films are based. The first Anne novel was published in 1919 and she went on to write 8 more. Kevin Sullivan and Laurie Pearson wrote the third film.
The first two films are directed and produced by Kevin Sullivan; Kevin also produced the third and helped to write the screenplay for all three. Stenfan Scani directed the third film.
The story
In this film we see Anne Shirley as a young woman; she has just accepted her first teaching post and is also trying to become a writer. Gilbert and Anne finally put their differences between them but Anne is not ready to admit her feelings for him and decides to leave and take up a teaching position at Kingsport Ladies School. Anne has a struggle to fit in at the school but the wonderful Miss Stacey (Her old teacher) is on hand to help her and along the way she also meets Morgan Harris a handsome and charming man. As she did so well at Green Gables Anne manages to win the hearts of many in Kingsport including Captain Harris despite the odds being against her. With times changing and everyone growing up, will Anne decide to return to Green Gables or stay in Kingsport? Who does her heart belong to Gilbert or Morgan Harris?
My Thoughts
I think this is a great sequel to the first film, I really enjoyed the love story between Anne and Gilbert, it was so exciting yet frustrating I found myself wanting to shout at the screen 'Can't you see he loves you girl'. It is also great to see Anne as an accomplished young woman teaching other children. After this film I found myself even more in love with the character of Anne Shirley, she has got a place in my heart just as she does with everyone she meets. I also really enjoyed the character of Morgan Harris who is dashing and charming and very attractive for an older man. The girls at Kingsport school where also a joy to watch, seeing them getting into all the scrapes that Anne found herself in when she was also a young girl and still gets into as a young woman.
Actors/Character:
The Anne Girl
Anne Shirley is played by Megan Follows in all three films; Anne is now becoming a woman, she takes a teaching position but still longs to be a writer. Anne blossoms as a teaching; she is kind and understanding and loves the girls that she teaches. She also starts to learn a lot about her heart and who she really loves. You can really see her growing up in this film. Megan Follows gives an incredible performance as Anne, as Anne is growing up so is Megan and I think that is what makes her character so believable. Megan won two Gemini Awards for best actress in her role of Anne Shirley.
Her closest Kindrid Spirt is Marrilla Cuthbert played by Colleen Dewhurst, Marrilla is glad that Anne has taken on a career in teaching, but knows deep down that Anne is not happy, she wants Anne to come back to Green Gables, but Anne can be very stubborn. Colleen Dewhurst is fabulous actress and does herself proud with the character of Marrilla Cuthbert. Colleen Dewhurst died two days before receiving her fourth Emmy Award.
Her bosom buddy Diana Barry is played by Schuyler Grant, Diana is now growing up but Anne and her still remain good friends. She is on search for a man while Anne is chasing a career; Diana asks Anne if Gilbert is fair game which makes Anne question her feelings. Schuyler Grant plays the role of Diana in all three films and does sterling job, as well her role as Diana Schuyler Grant is also known for her role of Camille Hawkins in TV series All My Children.
A big influence in Anne's life is Miss Stacey her teacher played by the lovely Marilyn Lightstone, Miss Stacey helps Anne to get a job a Kingsport ladies college, and is a great comfirt and encouragement to Anne throughout her time teaching their. Marilyn Lighstone also plays Miss Stacey in the second of the Anne films and has also appeared in many children's series including Dennis the Menace and Duck Tails.
Some of Anne's kindred Sprits are not so obvious like the very handsome Gilbert Blythe played by Jonathan Crombie; Gilbert tells Anne how much he likes her, but she knocks him back, he takes this badly and decides to move just as Anne realises her feelings for him, will they ever get it together? Jonathan Crombie is a fine actor and was nominated for Dora Award for Outstanding Performance in production of "Arcadia", 1996.
The new man in Anne's life is Morgan Harris played by Frank Converse, Morgan is the father of Emmeline Harris a pupil of Anne's, and he is a very strict upper class man who is not often around for his daughter. He dislikes Anne at first but she soon melts his heart until he makes her an interesting offer. Frank Converse is brilliant as the charming and aloof Morgan Harris; Frank has starred in a number of things including America's show Law and Order.
Emmeline Harris is played by Genevieve Appleton, Emmeline is a pupil of Annes and daughter of Morgan Harris, Emmeline is an outcast at school and always getting into scrapes, Anne sees much of herself in the girl and tales her under her wing. Genevieve Appleton gives a great performance as young Emmeline, she did not keep up the acting but instead has produced a number of productions including Past Perfect 2002.

The scenery is breathtaking and Prince Edward Island is somewhere I have always wanted to visit after watching these DVD's over and over again. The costumes are also amazing, especially Anne's puffed sleeve ball dress that Matthew buys for her (a touching moment in the DVD's)
