Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging is a teen film released July last year. The film is based on two books by author Louise Rennison ‘Angus, Thongs And Full-Frontal Snogging and It’s Ok I’m Wearing Really Big Knickers’. Both books are aimed at teenage girls as is the film. Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging grossed an estimated £5,024,597 at the box office. The film received mainly positive reviews from critics, one even went as far to name this the Teen Movie Of The Year! The film is rated 12 and runs for approximately 100 minutes.
Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging is directed by Gurinda Chadha who is of course famous for directing the brilliant Bend It Like Beckham. Her other films include Bride And Prejudice and Bhaji On The Beach.
Georgia Groome plays the main part of Georgia Nicolson in the film. Other notable performances include Alan Davies as Georgia’s Dad and Steve Jones as Jem.
Georgia Nicolson is just your average 14 year old. She lives with her Mum and Dad who according to her are the most embarrassing people on the planet as they are constantly ‘snogging’, she also lives with her little sister Libby and their cat Angus who is always dressed in some sort of strange outfit.
Georgia is like any other 14 year old girl, she’s desperate to get a boyfriend and fit in with the ‘cool’ crowd. She has her own little crew which includes her best friend Jas and two other friends, they call themselves The Ace Crew. While at school one day, the girls notice two new boys that have joined the school from London, the boys are two years older than the girls. Robbie and Tom are brothers, Jas likes Tom and Georgia likes Robbie. When Jas goes out with Tom Georgia sees it as the perfect opportunity for Jas to tell Robbie how great she is. However the two boys put a strain on the girls friendship and with Georgia’s 15th birthday coming up she really wants to go with Robbie, there’s only one thing… he’s already going out with the most popular girl in school…
Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging is a film that I tried my best to ignore when it was released, in my head I had pictured it as a cheap and childish rip-off of the brilliant Mean Girls. It’s also a film that only really appeals to girls of around 14 and 15 which is one more reason why I wasn’t exactly interested in seeing it. Having said that I am a big fan of girly films and when my boyfriends younger sister wanted me to watch this with her I thought I might as well give it a go. I wasn’t expecting much, just a light-hearted girly film that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which in all honesty is exactly what I got except there just seemed to be something missing from it.
Well, something missing is actually an understatement, the film was just extremely dull indeed. As I’m only 19 I could relate to the characters and remember being 14 myself and it was nice to watch the interaction between Georgia and her friends talking about boys. It really makes teenage girls sound very innocent which is how they should be and it’s a good depiction which objects to everything that you hear in the news today about teenagers being on drugs and having sex at 12 years old. So in a way I find it to be quite realistic because at that age all girls care about is whether they have a boyfriend and the only sexual contact they want is a kiss. Of course in the same way it’s not that realistic as what you see in the news about alcohol and sex is probably more true to life!
I found the character of Georgia to be played very well by Georgia Groome, she’s sweet and endearing and you really feel for her throughout the film, her friend’s are just as lovely and in some ways it really makes you miss being 14 when all there was to care about was kissing boys, going out with your friends, plucking your eyebrows and deliberating over whether or not to wear a thong for the first time! The male characters are quite sweet too, the kissing expert that Georgia sees quite near the beginning is especially funny. The character of Robbie on the other hand I found to be incredibly irritating, I don’t know whether it was his voice as you couldn’t quite tell if it had broken or not or whether it was infact just him in general. The fact that the director chose someone who looks like a cross between a member of the Jonas Brothers and a mini Zac Efron is probably a good thing for every girl under 15, for me it just made me cringe. My favourite thing about the film were the parts with Steve Jones with his shirt off, finally they have a man who appeals to an age group above 15 year olds!
The story became somewhat unrealistic in parts, it was good because it gave all girls the feeling that they too could go out with the ’cutest’ guy in school but just seemed a bit unrealistic that the coolest kid in school who’s dating the prettiest girl in school would suddenly dump his girlfriend to be with the misfit! Another thing that annoyed me, isn’t so much about the film but was Alan Davies in general, I don’t know what it is about him but I find him incredibly irritating and as soon as I saw his name come up in the credits I sighed to myself as already the film had gone downhill for me!
Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not condemning the film because of it’s actors, the reason I didn’t like the film was simple… it was boring! If I was watching it on by own I would have turned it off after half an hour but as I was watching it with an 11 year who seemed to be really enjoying it I couldn’t really say much.
I would recommend this film to girls of around 11-15, I think that anyone over that age will simply find it dull with an extremely weak storyline. I haven’t read the books so I couldn’t comment about which I prefer but I’ve heard that the books are miles better than the film and that’s something I can believe without a shadow of a doubt.

I have always wanted to see the ‘teen movie of 2008’ ever since it was released. I had planned on going to the cinema to see it , although by the time I got round to going to the cinema , the film , to my disappointment wasn’t showing anymore. So when I went to my friend’s house the other night and saw this DVD sitting on her DVD shelf , I couldn’t resist not asking could I borrow it.

Advantages: Funny, a great teenage film! Disadvantages: It is a kids film so adults may not like it as much!
Well first things to mention: This is a teenage film, for people around 12-16, so if you are any older than this, and your watching it, you need to bear it in mind when reviewing it! Which is what I am doing, I am remembering how I was at that age and remembering the type of films I was watching at that age! I was also watching this with a 13 year old, who loved it!!! The film is about a typical teenage girl, Georgia, her worries in life are: her ... ...from a boy, her parents, her weird little sister, the popular girls, not been pretty enough, not been anything "enough"!!!! This film is awesome! And omgosh, Aaron Johnson makes it 10000% times better.
The film is very young but i'm 16 and I love it, you just have to get pass the childish language. If you read or have read the books definately watch it!
I read the books all in a weeks holiday and when I got home found out there was a film so watched it and WOW.
If you're like me and do not enjoy British films very much, despite being British, this is a film you will enjoy. And Bend it Like Beckham - Gurinda Chadha is a great director.
The soundtrack is also great!

I've seen this movie in the cinema and I thought it was fantastic. Without giving too much away, it's based on a 15 year old kid called Georgia Nicolson, who is struggling with nosy parents and she is trying to find her way in life. She meets people on the way, and tries and copes with the ups and downs.
What I like about this movie, it is clever well thought and wondering what it would be like to be at a young age again. Every actor is funny, and ... ...really well, even tho she is only 16, but makes us believe how many of us grew up ages ago
Comedian Alan Davies plays Bob Nicolson really well, when I found out he was cast, was scared he wouldn't be as good as he was in tv shows in the past, but I was wrong, it makes us believe that he knows
what he is talking about

wow, deffinetley the best film ive seen all year! and is one of my favourites. its just so funny!! and exactly like a life of a teenage girl and what goes on and who with on her life, i have already bought it on dvd and watched it many times, its sold in most shops for around £11.
