Dave Buznik is a mild-tempered man forced to take anger management classes because of a misunderstanding...or two. His counsellor, Dr Buddy Rydell, thinks Dave's problem is so severe that he needs to be constantly monitored, and so moves in with him. However, Rydell doesn't behave as Dave was expecting and has such bizarre ways of apparently making his patient better that he in fact makes him worse. So much so that Dave's girlfriend, Linda, decides to leave him. But if Dave doesn't finish the course, then he will be going to jail. Can he hold everything together for a bit longer until Dr Rydell signs him off? And will he manage to win Linda back?
I am not Adam Sandler's hugest fan; although he can undoubtedly be funny at times, more often than not, he is distinctly average. I certainly didn't like him in Click or Big Daddy, the two most recent films I've seen him in. Having already seen Anger Management a couple of times without the film having much of an impact on me, I didn't have particularly high expectations and only watched it because I was with a Sandler fan. So was surprised to find myself really laughing at him as Dave Buznik. I wasn't in a particularly good mood at the time, but he really cheered me up. This is one of his less silly roles - he is very understated for once - and I thought it was all the better because of it. Dave is basically an ordinary guy in a bizarre situation - at least he managed to convince me he was - and I liked him all the more for it.
Now I am a massive fan of Jack Nicholson. He is a really excellent actor, and I loved his performances in The Shining and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. However, he has also done some pretty rubbish roles too. As Dr Rydell, he is fairly average. The character is exceptionally annoying, but he is supposed to be, so I can't really blame Nicholson for that. However, I do think the role is a waste of his talents as an actor. I don't think he does funny all that well - I would definitely rather see him in serious roles. He isn't bad here, he just isn't that brilliant either.
Marisa Tomei is reasonable as Linda; at least she looks the part and doesn't fluff any lines. However, it is some of the less important roles that really stood out for me. John Turturro plays one of Dave's anger management classmates, in a role that is a far cry from that of Monk. He is a really talented actor and I'd like to see more of him. The same goes for Luis Guzman, who plays another of the classmates. He appears in a lot of films as a secondary character and I'd really like to see him stretched a bit further. There are also a number of cameos by famous people such as John McEnroe, Woody Harrelson and Rudolph Giuliani - I particularly liked the John McEnroe one because of the whole anger management thing.
I was really surprised at how much I laughed during the course of the film. I loved Adam Sandler's deadpan expressions and looks of total bewilderment at Dr Rydell's strange behaviour. I also really enjoyed seeing him sing 'I'm so pretty' from West Side Story - it is so silly that I shouldn't have found it as amusing as I did, but it was great fun. And although it is really over-the-top, particularly towards the end, anything that can make me laugh has to be a good thing. I have read a lot of criticism of the ending, which is without a doubt ridiculous and unbelievable, but it is supposed to be a comedy after all, so I think it just about gets away with it.
Apart from the silliness, if I have to criticise the film, it is that it isn't very politically correct. Anger management is a serious problem and not everyone is going to be amused by the various taunts throughout the film at Dr Rydell's bizarre anger management techniques. And there are other examples of behaviour that you perhaps wouldn't want children copying, including some quite violent fights. However, there is a rating of 15 on the film, so children shouldn't really be watching anyway. And if you think you are going to be offended, then obviously don't watch.
I so rarely laugh in the way that I did during the course of this film that I have to rate it quite highly. As mentioned, I have watched it before, without it leaving a lasting impression, so it obviously isn't brilliant, but still just about good enough to merit four stars. I've got it in my DVD collection, so will no doubt fish it out again when I want cheering up. Recommended.
Advantages: Amusing yet thought provoking Disadvantages: Can make you mad (a bit)
...His sentence is to attend anger management classes - taught by the very passenger sat next to him on the plane (Jack Nicholson). Convinced that he does not have a problem, he confidently declares that he will only be attending one session. Unfortunately for him, it looks like he will be stuck longer than he expects & maybe even longer than the term of anger management sentenced. This film actually seems to spark a little stress in me, just watching ... ...not all likely to harbour anger for years then suddenly explode & injure someone. Of course life is not so dramatic. There are probably hundreds of 'Dave's all over the world in the same situations, who will never 'get help' for such a condition because it is not really a condition but normal behaviour to us. This film awakens you to the fact, however, that just because you are not a crazy-psycho, you may need to learn to alter your behaviour, rather ...

...(without the bread). Anger Management is the tale of Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler) a perfectly normal guy whose only flaws seem to be that he is a bit of a pushover (by American standards anyway, I would just call it being polite) and that he has an aversion to public displays of affection with his girlfriend Linda (Marisa Tomei). ...I had reservations about seeing Anger Management. No matter how much I’ve enjoyed Adam Sandler films in the past I just had a bad feeling about his one. And I hate to say I was proved right. Now although that doesn’t happen too often it did happen with this film but why well let me explain.

Advantages: 3 great films in one boxset! Disadvantages: none.
Three great films available on boxset!
Normally i find you get two good films and one there are trying to get rid of but you don't get that with this deal!
Happy Gilmore was the first of the three films to released and without giving too much of the film away Adam Sandler has swapped ice hockey for golf to try and win enough money to buy his grandmothers house back with has been reposessed.
Mr Deeds was the second film to be released and Adam Sandler is a small town guy and comes in to $40 billion dollars when his long lost uncle dies.
Angermanagement was the last film out of the three to be released in which Adam Sandler is an overworked business man made to go angermanagement therapy after a misunderstanding on a plane.

I think Adam Sandler is a great performer. Not the best actor, but he sure is a funny guy. Throughout these 3 discs he performs alongside some great names including Winona Ryder, and Jack Nicholas.

DVD Description
ANGER MANAGEMENT, directed by Peter 'NUTTY PROFESSOR 2' Segal, looks into the life of Dave Buznik (Adam Sandler), an executive assistant at a pet clothing company. The mild-mannered but overly passive Dave is in love with his girlfriend, Linda (Marisa Tomei), yet his anxious personality keeps him from taking things further, both in their relationship and in his career. However, Dave's life takes a strange turn when he is wrongly accused of 'air rag'" on a flight and sentenced to mandatory anger management classes. Eccentric anger guru Buddy Rydell (Jack Nicholson) becomes Dave's therapist, but when Buddy abruptly moves in with Dave, the doctor-patient relationship takes an unusual turn. An appropriate pairing of actors with oversized personalities, ANGER MANAGEMENT allows Nicholson to run amuck, while letting Sandler hone the mellower side of his cinematic presence. As Sandler's Dave becomes more bewildered at his predicament, Nicholson's Buddy teeters wildly between wise and rambunctious. Meanwhile, Tomei shines in her role as Dave's beloved. Of course, no mainstream Sandler movie would be complete without a number of familiar faces in supporting and cameo roles, and ANGER has them by the boatload. John Turturro steals every scene he's in; Luiz Guzman sports some remarkably unfortunate facial hair; Heather Graham shows up as a brownie-hurling blonde bombshell; and John C. Reilly appears as a bully-turned-Buddhist-monk. And to top it all off, there are cameos by renowned 'angry' sports figures Bobby Knight and John McEnroe, as well as former mayor of NYC, Rudy Giuliani.
