Hall. It featured more than two hours of hits from a body of work spanning almost three decades. In this record of a memorable night, star after star steps onto a massive, Eurovision-style set to revisit golden moments in their long association with Britain's most successful composer of musicals. Elaine Paige in big frocks and even bigger voice delivers "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" and "Memory" with her usual power; Michael Ball and Donny Osmond stretch the last vestiges of boyish charm to the very limits but still sound great; and Boyzone get the youth vote. Then there are Kiri te Kanawa, Bonnie Tyler, Tina Arena and of course, another encore for Julian Lloyd Webber and those Variations on the cello. But the stars are Sir Andrew's ex-wife Sarah Brightman in an outstanding selection fromThe Phantom of the Opera(probably his best work), Antonio Banderos who really can sing, and Glenn Close, a stupendous, moving Norma Desmond in songs fromSunset Boulevard. All in all, a deserved celebration for someone who has given so many people a great deal of pleasure, and a treat for musicals fans of all ages. --Piers Ford

Advantages: Some no. 1 Hits Disadvantages: You have to be a fan to appreciate
...I found this one on the shelf at Woolworths along with all the other stuff that goes for £5 when shops decide to have a clearance.
I actually bought it out of interest to hear what was so bad on it that it was only worth £5 pound. Fortunately I was pleasantly suprised.
Gold has a good collection of hits from his shows. The best ones were
"Memory" from Cats and "Another Suitcase Another Hall" from Evita and Don't Cry for me Argentina.
But there is a good sprinkling of other musicals including The Phantom of the Opera , Superstar, Whistle Down the Wind.
All together there are a good twenty songs in the collection and pleanty of variety. The Cover title is AndrewLloydWebber Gold The definitive Hits Collection.
There is an extremely explanitive cover insert and introuduction which introduces the album as a collection of all 20 of his...

Advantages: You get to hear the original Supergroup reformed Disadvantages: The album shows what good music some of us missed played live.
...Eric Clapton is my favourite guitarist not only for his longevity but for the skill in his guitar playing. He with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker reform in 2005 for a series of Concerts initially at the RoyalAlbertHall but then going world wide for a tour.
I saw Eric Clapton with Blind Faith at one of the early free concerts in Hyde Park in the late sixties, I think june 1969, as a teenager so was quite upset that I missed the AlbertHall Concerts especially as one fell on my birthday 5th May 2007.
However I first recorded the concert from TV and then was bought the album and DVD the Christmas following it's release. The concert is magical. There are three 60 year old rockers who hadn't played all together in a band for forty years. Playing the songs as the did all those years ago. They play, in my own personal opinion, better than...

Advantages: Loads of music for your money, wide variety Disadvantages: I've not seen all the shows
...Simply the Songs of AndrewLloydWebber is a box set of four CDs which contain fifty-five songs from fourteen different musicals. You should expect plenty of variety then.
LloydWebber has written a huge number of musicals on a variety of topics. He's written some based on religion (Jesus Christ Superstar), some about historical figures (Evita) and some that are just collections of songs (Cats).
If you like musicals, the chances are you will have seen some by him. If you don't like musicals, you're probably not going to go out and buy these CDs whatever I say about them.
Some LloydWebber songs are fairly predictable. They follow a standard pattern of verses, so you can see the rhymes coming a mile off. Others are well-constructed, beautiful pieces of music. Since this box set is a 'best of' with such a large number...
