recording of sacred music performed by tenor legend Franco Corelli. Bocelli--who in the meantime has come to inspire millions of fiercely loyal fans himself--returns to the genre as the guiding theme of Sacred Arias, the release of which coincides with the first major English-language biography of the singer. These performances are filled with the singer's phenomenally well-known vocal signature: his flair for long, sweetly floating high notes and the gentle sense of cadence he brings to a melody. It's a mistake to compartmentalise Bocelli into a singer of "operatic" versus "popular" styles: in truth his approach is at heart the same. Lack of colour and control in his phrasing remains a drawback, but the emotional empathy Bocelli evokes is never in doubt. The arias collected here sample some of the most famous devotional pieces: Schubert's "Ave Maria" and Mozart's transporting "Ave Verum," as well as an arrangement of "Silent Night" in which Bocelli tries out his English. There's also a decidedly odd choice of bedfellows for a programme of "sacred" music, such as a song from Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder (whose "angel" is the object of an overpoweringly erotic attraction) and Handel's figurative ode to a tree, "Ombra mai fu". Still, Bocelli sings with an unfeigned directness that is sure to expand his already enormous following even further. --Thomas May

...AndreaBocelli's latest album has something for everyone. Although it is called a greatest hits album there are, in fact, 4 new recordings to delight the devoted fans such as myself. In addition, all his classic & most beautiful recordings are also here such as "Time to say goodbye" with Sarah Brightman & "The Prayer" with Celine Dion + my favourite of all time "Sogno". The title song is also a variation on the original but now with some inspirational english lyrics. I would most definitely recommend this album to anyone new to Andrea's magic but would also urge that establish fans do not reject it as simply a greatest hits re-hash, which it certainly is not. This is easy listening music, no opera, not for rock fans but for anyone who appreciates "conventional" music performed by a real professional in his field. There is also a version...

...Former lawyer Dr. AndreaBocelli is one the world's most popular classical and operatic singers and his easy listening style of singing and choice of many popular songs to sing has brought classical style singing to the masses.
Andrea is blind and it has been a long debated scientific discussion amongst musicologists as to whether blindness enables musical artists to better understand sound.
Romanza is his third album and reached number 6 in the UK album charts.
It is a greatest hits album released in 1997 and co-produced by no less than 5 producers. Although the album didn't reach No.1 in either the USA or the UK it has become one of the highest selling albums of all time selling something like 17 million copies worldwide to date.
The style of the album is an easy listening classical genre in my opinion.

..."One only sees clearly through the heart. The essential is invisible to the eyes".
Antoine de Saint-Exupery;
Do I like opera? Not really. As much as I appreciate its cultural value it was never present in my life and I was never drawn to it. In the mid 90s however there would be an Italian singer from Tuscany that would change my view of opera. Born in 1958, AndreaBocelli invaded the European music charts with his hit song “Con te partiro” – a mix of opera, classic and pop music. This was the first song I heard by this truly unique artist. I doubt any other singer (Enya can actually) can emanate so much peace and sentiment when they sing.
Like many great artists Bocelli’s rare musical talent manifested itself from a very young age and he started having piano lessons from the age of five, followed by flute and saxophone. Born...
