It's the early 1970s and the local anchorman is not only a source of news but a revered local hero. In San Diego, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), a mustachioed bachelor with a taste...
more...for scotch, unparalleled passion for the jazz flute, and a near-telepathic connection with his spirited mutt, Baxter, is that man. Rounding out Ron's testosterone-heavy news team are his close friends--cologne-obsessed man-on-the-street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), sports reporter Champ Kind (Dave Koechner), and mentally challenged weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carrell). Their male camaraderie is challenged, though, when producer Ed Harken (Fred Willard), pressured by changing times, brings the first female reporter, ambitious Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), to the team. Ron finds his chauvinistic ideals compromised further when he starts falling in love with her. Fuelled by Ferrell's singularly loopy persona, ANCHORMAN joins the long list of comedies which have successfully poked fun at the styles and mores of the '70s. Here, with Ferrell's script and Adam McKay's direction, the character of Ron Burgundy becomes a full-bodied comic creation whose possibilities for laughs aren't nearly exhausted by the end credits. The result is an often hilarious celebration of moustaches, wide neckties, alcohol abuse, and good, old-fashioned sexism.

I wasn't too keen on this at first, but my brother suggested buying it, and at a mere £5.99 from play.com, why not? And it was a bloody brilliant purchase!

Let me just say though, that this film is funny in a lighthearted, cheap gag way. There is nothing clever about the humour, so if that's what you're after, this won't be your cup of tea.

The film is based in a sexist news studio in San Diego in the early 1970s. The local top rated anchorman Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and his news crew, reporter Brian (Paul Rudd), sports commentator Champ (David Koechner), and weatherman Brick (Steve Carell) have been told by the producer that they are bringing in a female reporter into chauvinistic newsroom, in the form of Veronica (Christina Applegate).

Ron is fine with this arrangement providing a line is drawn and Veronica is only restricted to reportings regarding 'women interests' such cooking and cat fashion shows. Of course, ambitious Veronica isn't willing to stick to those things and steps behind the news desk, causing a war!

This film is full of hilarious one-liners that will leave you in stitches, such as when Ron Burgundy says to a dog, 'You're so wise, you're like a miniature Buddha, covered with hair' or 'Mmmmm... I look good. I mean really good. Hey everyone... come and see how good I look.' Ok, I guess that's not particularly funny if you've never seen the film. You just have to watch it for yourself to understand the hilarity!

You won't be able to help yourself from quoting from the film! My friends and I are constantly doing stupid random role-plays, quoting things from the film! And after a few minutes of conversing in 'Anchorman' talk, we just can't help watching the DVD again! And again!

The only downfall I can think of is that the film is rather slow at the start with not that many funny parts. But this is compensated for later, when you have laughs after laughs after laughs!

The DVD itself is well worth the value, as you get the film, which is more than enough, but also special features! Commentary! Deleted scenes! Bloopers! Even more comedy!
