Advantages: Moustaches! Gang war! Disadvantages: Best jokes unevenly spread
If you've seen the trailer for this and were interested, then it's pretty safe to say you'll enjoy it. Need I say more? "Yes, or the other Ciao users will disrespect your opinion and never read anything you write again!" said my conscience.
"OK," said I. And thus, more was said...

The film is based around the career of Channel Four News presenter Ron Burgundy. For those of you interested in the film for the wrong reasons, I must point ... ...a different Channel Four News to that with which we are accustomed in the UK. The film, which will be of some disappointment to many, is not about Jon Snow or Krishnan Guru-Murphy. This film is set in San Diego, California in the 1970's, long before Richard Whiteley (RIP) and Vorderface kicked off the British station.
OK, now that's cleared up, back to my review.

Advantages: Hilarious jokes, good storyline and acting Disadvantages: A few slow moments between jokes but nothing major
...the life of a news anchorman called Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell). Focusing on the fierce battles between local news channels for ratings Anchorman also highlights, in a comical way, the shallow self centeredness of those involved who cared more about their looks and ability to read from a teleprompter more than anything or anyone else. The movie also shows the difficulties women had in a predominately male role as Veronica Corningstone (Christina ... ...Ron Burgundy is the anchorman on the KVWN network and his team consists of sports reporter Champ Kind (David Koechner), weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), and on-the-spot reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd). Upon Veronica's arrival to the network things start to get worse for Ron culminating in him being late for a broadcast! Veronica fills in at short notice, making history as the first female anchor, and much to Ron's disgust she is a big ...

Advantages: Very very funny; Amazing cast; Fantastic set-pieces Disadvantages: May not be to everyones tastes - quite silly at times
...populated by students, without hearing Anchorman quoted. Paul Rudd's brilliant sex panther line - "60% of the time, it works every time", or Steve Carells "I love lamp!" And you know what? I love it. I love Anchorman!
This film has received a huge cult following which was entirely justified to me as I sat in front of the TV, laughing so hard I could barely breathe upon the fourth time of watching this great film through. According to Wikipedia the ... ...Some of the scenes in Anchorman were massively memorable. The harmonised singing of Afternoon Delight for instance as a response to the question, 'what is love?'. How about the huge 5-way multi-network melee featuring tridents, horses, nets, hacked off limbs and a man on fire. It is because the film is so outrageous that it works so well.
Let me be straight - very few films actually make me laugh. Some may make me smile, even grunt a tone of approval, ...

So, shall I buy it or shall I not
As I've said, if you like the genre, Anchorman will make a great addition to your collection. It's not going to entice any new viewers, but is truly a memorable experience. Well worth the buy. ...

Advantages: Can watch it a 100 times and not get bored Disadvantages: far too funny
...Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) lead Anchorman for a 70's San Diego TV station. Like all Will Ferrell movies comic jokes are followed by even more comic jokes.
Ron Burundy and his team have been the top news team in San Diego for as long as anyone can rember however when a women Veronica Conrningstone trys to show them how its done, they retaliate in the only way they know how, by making sexist jokes and trying to hit on her. However Ron Quickly realises ... ...coaster ride showing the ups and dows and the battle of the sexes in the news room.
WIth jokes flying about all over the place and some of the funniest actors taking minor roles, Jack Black as the grumpy motorcyclist, Ben Stiller as a rival news reader and Vince Vaughn as The second best Anchorman. All these little extra things just keep the film funny the second and third times.
I think the opening sentence just about sums up what the producers ...

Advantages: hilarious and laugh out loud Disadvantages: sexist references but didnt offend me
...a 70's news team made up of 4 men-the weatherman, the roving reporter, the sports guy and of course the legendary anchorman aka ron bergundy the most respected man in san diego. as a sexist news team who laugh at the idea of a female anchor, they are in for a shock when they're joined by an ambitious young woman who wants to achieve her goal of being the first anchorwoman. this film made me laugh out loud especially at the weatherman brick-yep its even in the name- who is mentally challenged to say the least. his random outbursts and his hilarious laugh made the film even more entertaining, besides the other humourous actors. i have watched this film at least 6 times and i laugh everytime i watch....

Advantages: Will ferrell is in it Disadvantages: Script, cast, lack of laughs
...As a fan of Will Ferrell in films as Anchorman and Zoolander, I bought this DVD on a whim and was very disappointed with the standard of the film and found myself checking my DVD player to see how much longer i would have to endure it.
Will Ferrell himself provides a decent acting performance, but is made to work very hard for his money in a script bereft of the wit or charm of Anchorman. Unfortunately there are no real stand out performances among the supporting cast to help the film along.
The DVD itself has plenty of extra features to keep fans of the film happy, but if you are considering buying the film without having seen it, I'd recommend renting it first, so you know what you will be getting for your cash....

DVD Description
It's the early 1970s and the local anchorman is not only a source of news but a revered local hero. In San Diego, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), a mustachioed bachelor with a taste for scotch, unparalleled passion for the jazz flute, and a near-telepathic connection with his spirited mutt, Baxter, is that man. Rounding out Ron's testosterone-heavy news team are his close friends--cologne-obsessed man-on-the-street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), sports reporter Champ Kind (Dave Koechner), and mentally challenged weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carrell). Their male camaraderie is challenged, though, when producer Ed Harken (Fred Willard), pressured by changing times, brings the first female reporter, ambitious Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), to the team. Ron finds his chauvinistic ideals compromised further when he starts falling in love with her. Fuelled by Ferrell's singularly loopy persona, ANCHORMAN joins the long list of comedies which have successfully poked fun at the styles and mores of the '70s. Here, with Ferrell's script and Adam McKay's direction, the character of Ron Burgundy becomes a full-bodied comic creation whose possibilities for laughs aren't nearly exhausted by the end credits. The result is an often hilarious celebration of moustaches, wide neckties, alcohol abuse, and good, old-fashioned sexism.
