(1999), composer David Holmes has provided a little bit of this, that and the other; the latter coming via erotic female vocal samples in edgy dance numbers, "Opening Credits" and "Strip Club". Holmes, having worked previously on Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Eleven (2001) and Out of Sight (1998), may still be a cinematic newcomer but has distaff qualifications for the current project. In 1992 he sampled Ennio Morricone's theme to the Robert De Niro gangster epic Once upon a Time in America (1984) and had a massive club hit with the result, "De Niro". Since then he has spent as much time remixing the likes of U2, The Manic Street Preachers and Ice Cube as penning movie scores, and his work on Analyze That is deeply informed by his dance, funk, jazz and blues sensibility. The score spans funky techno stylings, "Getting the Gold", jazzy, Herbbie Hancock-like funk, "Drive to the Heist", Santana-esque horn-laden Latin electric jazz-rock, "Going Up in the Van", Miles Davis-influenced free jazz, "Spell Rigazzi", Mancini-like romantic MOR, "Sushi Bar" and more, making this a diverse, sharply produced set, which at 30 minutes is in little danger of outstaying its welcome. --Gary S Dalkin

expect.Analyze This(1999) had the advantage of a then-fresh idea--Robert De Niro as a neurotic mob boss seeking therapy with reluctant shrink Billy Crystal--but that idea's stale (and has been handled more authentically inThe Sopranos), so this sequel relies on established chemistry and zesty dialogue that matches the original. There's nothing wrong with a retread when it's this funny, and De Niro's latter-day penchant for comedy suits him well when, as kingpin Paul Vitti, he lures Dr Sobel (Crystal) into a prison breakout scheme involving faked catatonia andWest Side Storyshow tunes. The contrived plot involves Vitti's criminal comeback. Unfortunately, there's little room for Lisa Kudrow as Sobel's sarcastic wife, but De Niro'sRaging Bullco-star Cathy Moriarty-Gentile is welcomed as a rival mob queen. You want a comedy masterpiece? Fuhgeddaboudit. You want 95 minutes of easy fun? It's right here... and don't miss those obligatory outtakes. --Jeff Shannon

Over the last few nights, rather than sit and watch hours of endless rubbish on TV I have been catching up on the films I’ve bought and been meaning to see. So that means there’s material for at least three more ops. The first of these films was the follow up to the 1999 comedy Analzye This. Ramis returned with the same key cast members to try and make a sequel to the surprise hit.
Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro) has been imprisoned in Sing Sing a maximum-security prison following the end of the first film. He runs everything inside but when his cellmate is transferred without requesting it Vitti gets nervous and so that night rather than sleep in his bed he sleeps under it. Bit of an odd decision until in the middle of the night one of the guards tries to take him out in his bed with a silenced pistol.
He’s having major problems and decides he needs to do something fast to get himself out. He decides the best way is if he appears mad, at least then he can get into a secure cell. After a fight breaks out in the canteen he starts singing songs from West Side Story and ultimately ends up in a padded cell awaiting the arrival of the good doctor who helped him out so well last time.
Of course Dr Sobel (Billy Crystal) still has his own problems, his father has just died and he doesn’t seem to feel anything. He’s now married to Laura (Lisa Kudrow), which is great but his work still doesn’t seem to be very fulfilling and on top of all that he’s taking endless amounts of tablets on the side. His life is stressful enough but the call to come and treat Paul Vitti really is another blow to him as he thought he was finally rid of him.
After running a number of tests on Vitti, he’s sure that he is actually insane and needs to be released to a safe house as quickly as possible. However what he didn’t count on was that he would be the one Vitti is released to. And shortly after leaving the prison it turns out he was faking it all along and now he was out. Now Vitti is determined to find out who is trying to kill him.
Again like the first film the plot is incredibly simple and I think it’s this point that has lead to a number of bad reviews of this film. The humours simple and very much follows the pattern of the first, which again ahs lead to a lot of people saying it’s a bad film but to be totally honest it isn’t a bad film and in-fact is just the sort of brainless comedy that worked out to be ideal watching after a hard day at work.
Again as with the first Director/Actor Harold Ramis returns to direct the film after the success he made of the first one. The script follows very similar lines to the first film, however more of Sobel’s character flaws and problems come out during this one making it a little less one sided. Again some of the locations match the idea of the film perfectly and although some of the situations like the car chase do seem a bit far-fetched but are actually quite funny.
The main factor that guaranteed that this was going to be a good film was the fact that the main actors were returning. There’s nothing worse than a sequel without the original cast members. In fact without De Niro, I honestly feel this wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good. As both the mad Vitti and his return to the normal Vitti, De Niro plays both well and really gets the most out of the script.
Although De Niro does steal the show I think Billy Crystal really adds something to this one as well. He built up a good rapport with De Niro during the first film and this was also an important part of keeping the same style of comedy going during this second outing. However again I feel Lisa Kudrow let the film down massively, trying to be so unlike Pheobe that in actual fact she seemed to be even more like her. Although I feel that the script may have been written to portray her this way.
I know a lot of people following my op on the first film were saying they had heard this wasn’t very good, well to be honest compared to the first it wasn’t as good. But that’s not to say that it isn’t a good film because it is. The way De Niro and Crystal interact on screen really makes the film a lot better than perhaps the script would allow. That said Ramis knows how to make a decent comedy film and that alone should be a reason to see it. If you liked Analyze This its almost a certainty you’ll like this one.
...where it left of in analyze this.
as the film starts, it is based in a strip club with 2 men arguing, one of them ends up getting shot, then it ends. it is actually a tv programme that the inmates are watching at the prison, its a well thought of beginning.
the next good scene is where dr ben soble is at his dads funeral, he gets called up to say his piece. he starts cursing his dad, saying loads of bad things about him. it turns out to be a dream ... ...year.
if you've seen analyze this- that does'nt even compare to this sequel!!
this really is a funny film. once again the actors have performed another excellant film, and i think that if different actors had played the characters in this film, it wouldn't have been half as funny. the actors have made the parts there own....hilarious
this really is a must see movie. ...

Advantages: robert de niro going crazy Disadvantages: bit confusing,not as funny as you'd expect
Before Analyze This i didn't think of Robert de Niro as a comedy actor, and after watching that and the sequel i still don't! I think he is one of the best actors around, and maybe comedy woulld suit him if he were in a better movie! After all he wasn't all that bad in Meet the Parents!
Billy Crystal has his moments, to me he seems to be more of an acquired taste, a taste not acquired by me!
Lisa Kudrow, is a waste of screen space in this movie!
... ...keep you watching though!
Analyze That, however, was a waste of time! The only two memorable parts of the movie were when Robert de Niro was in prison and faked madness, singing songs from Westside Story, and prancing about like a fairy elephant, and Billy Crystals fathers funeral, with him fantasizing about going up and delivering a very honest eulogy!!
I found the rest of the movie rather boring, and at times a bit confusing! Maybe I missed a ...

...sequel to their 1999 hit Analyze This. De Niro is again Mafia boss Paul Vitti, who is now in prison at Sing-Sing. He’s having a hard time staying alive, as somebody keeps sending hit men to kill him.
This brings on the anxiety attacks he suffered from previously, and these manifest themselves by him bursting into songs from the musical ‘West Side Story’, or else going into a totally catatonic state.
So the authorities send for his former psychiatrist ... ...him.
Sobel really doesn’t want the job, and is even less pleased when the Justice Department insists in releasing Vitti into his care, and having him move into his own home. Sobel’s long suffering wife (Lisa Krudow) is less than happy, especially as they now have a teenage son, and because Vitti insists on bringing along his monstrous bodyguard, ‘Jelly’ to live with him.
Sobel tries to fix him up with a legitimate job, but there aren’t too many ...

...it's a follow up to ANALYZE THIS. Paul Vitti (De Niro) was locked up in Sing Sing prison where he had problems with someone attempting to kill him. So he fakes a breakdown by singing songs from the well known musical West Side Story. His shrink Dr. Ben Sobel (Cyrstal) sees him and is then given Paul in custody for a month.
Naturally Paul was faking and as soon as he's out he wants to get back to the good life. But Ben puts a stop to it and Paul ... ...disasterous effects (the one in the jewelers shop is my favorite) until he settles with one as a person training the bad guy on "Little Caesar" (a tv programme.)
Well Vitti then is planning a 'job' he's gonna swipe some gold, he gets away with it but there is a funny twist. Naturally good guy Sobel gets caught up in this through trying to get him to go straight.
What I haven't told you is about his rival - Louis the Wrench (so named because he ...

Advantages: Good acting, 1 fanatstic movie Disadvantages: 1 disappointing movie, a loss of direction
Oh no, another DVD review by Iama, what a shame as they all suck... >>
Anyway, I got Analyze this/Analyzethat from Morrisons for £5 recently and watched them the following few nights (whilst admittedly mildly drunk). Despite wanting these for a while it took me around 18 months to finally decide to actually get the bloody things (and at that sort of a price who can refuse?)
The movies order is Analyze This then Analyzethat (if you want to watch them chronologically anyway), so thats the way I'll review them.
Analyze this-
The movie opens with a shoot out between rival mobsters and quickly introduces you to Paul Vitti (Robert DeNiro) and the overall ganster themes that the series has.
Then the movie introduces us to psychiatrist Ben Sobel (Bill Crystal) talking to a client and introduces us to some of the surreal humour ...
Advantages: comedy value typical b movie Disadvantages: none
dont agree with revealing the major plot points I don't feel I could do it justice i would rather allow yourselves to pick up the DVD watch in good spirits and analyze how many pointless scenes there are that just don?t need to be there at all.
CAST
~~~
Deron Mcbee the former American gladiator and you can tell right from the start, in brilliant condition you would hope that the role would give him a springboard to major success, however this is just not the case. He relies solely on the fact he has been working out for the show for years, rather then having any real acting ability. But then again with everyone else the same it makes him stand out at least.
DVD Description
ANALYZE THAT, the star-studded sequel to 1999's smash comedy hit ANALYZE THIS, reunites neurotic mobster Paul Vitti (Robert De Niro) with his former psychiatrist Ben Sobel (Billy Crystal). The anxious mob boss is about to finish his prison sentence but he is suffering a nervous breakdown behind bars and the only one who can diagnose his ailments is Sobel. After a string of hysterical tests, the Feds grant Sobel permission to observe Vitti as a patient and, much to the dismay of Sobol's wife Laura (Lisa Kudrow), as a house guest. However, Sobel has problems of his own. He's suffering from a severe identity crisis after the death of his father, and Vitti's presence in his suburban New Jersey home has the psychiatrist acting crazy too. In an effort to straighten Vitti out, Sobel decides that the solution is to find him a real, honest job. Vitti tries his hand at several ill-matched professions, and finally finds his dream job as a technical advisor on a SOPRANOS-like cable television show. Everything is going smoothly until Vitti starts to take the show a little too seriously, calling his former mafia cohorts to the set. A raucous comedic event that uses the chemistry between De Niro and Crystal to great effect, ANALYZE THAT is yet another knee-slapping gem from director Harold Ramis.
