Brilliant sets and acting from all the main actors. Witty dialogue as you would expect from Oscar Wilde who originally wrote this for the stage. The subtefuge of hiding secrets, the misinterpretation of what people see & hear and the almost farcical comings and goings in the final scenes of the film, make it thoroughly enjoyable.
It's about trying not to idealise your partner and putting unrealistic goals or expectations on them which will only result in your disappointment.
Everett puts in a fantastic performance as the aristocratic fop who's allergic to commitment, and the rest of the cast also provide polished performances.
Witty, clever and an indictment of the fact that no-one is perfect.
Advantages: Stunning Script, Rupert Everett is simply gorgeous Disadvantages: Tries too hard to escape its theatrical roots

He oozes sex appeal in all his scenes and is at his best trying to outwit and seduce Mrs Cheevley. Overall an enjoyable movie, where you will end up marvelling at the genius of Oscar Wilde and talents of Rupert Everett. ...

What truly makes this special is the language used, the sarcasm flows like honey and the one-upmanship is only thinly disguised. ...
