Amores perros ------------- Defintely one of the best movies I've ever seen. One that really touches you. I went to see it with my girlfriend. She used to dislike "alternative" movies. But when the names appeared at the end of the movie (150min!) she spontanuously said and with a sad voice: "Oh... it isn't over, is it?" :(
What is the movie about? It 's about three people and their dogs in Mexico city. Their lives cross eachother in a car accident. From that moment their lives are turned upside-down. As before they lived their life full of lies and betrayal without a problem, now they run out of luck. The cause of all of this is always the same: love. That's where "amores perros" comes from: "Love's a dog/bitch".
The structure of the movie is a bit like "Pulp fiction". The chronology isn't respected -the car accident will occur a few times-, but you can follow easily. Be sure to pay attention at any moment. Each of personages cross eachother once and then.
All of the actors are unknown to me: Gael Garcia Bernal, Goya Toledo, Vanessa Bauche... ever heard of them? But they do a wonderful job, they act so natural it looks like real life. Especially Emilio Echevarria, playing "the goat". that's the old man, an ex-guerillero.
I have to say the movie is very raw/rough. Especially for the dogs. But not as it would be in an American movie. Here it looks more real. Of course they claim at the end of the movie that no dog was hurt to make this movie, but when you see them drag the corpse away of a dog that lost a dogfight... you shiver...
Last but not least, the soundtrack is a beauty. It suits the movie perfectly: movie and soundtrack are one. My favourite tracks: Nacha pop - Lucha de gigantes ; Control machete - Amores perros (opening track).
Now go watch this. You'll never spend a penny anymore to watch an Hollywood-movie! I'm not planning to give a lot of 5 stars to movies, but this one deserves 6! :)
