Jim Carrey playing it straight
Review of The Majestic (Wide Screen) by bigmike33

Advantages: Godd old-fashioned storyline
Disadvantages: A bit mawdling and over long

...The Majestic was released in 2001 and made little impact on the big screen, which is a surprise considering it starred Jim Carrey, whose previous films were all big successes at the box office. However Carrey, unlike in his previous roles (excluding the Truman Show) plays it dead straight, which may have been the reason for the low box office returns. Even though it did badly on the big screen The Majestic is a good old fashioned film, and will keep you entertained for its duration. Set in 1951, Peter Appleton (played by Carrey) is an up-and-coming screenwriter whose attendance at a leftwing meeting leads to an accusation of Communism, which results in him becoming blacklisted. Shunned by the movie world, Appleton goes for a drive and becomes involved in a car accident which knocks him out cold. When he awakes he finds himself... Read review

Overboard Over-rated?
Review of Overboard (Wide Screen) by SianC

Advantages: Its an easy-to-watch, light hearted comedy which can be enjoyed by most
Disadvantages: it does have a basic story line which is somewhat predictable

...I first saw Overboard when I was very young and since have repeatidly viewed it without tiring of its comedy. If you are a fan of Goldie Hawn this film is a must-see. She is centered in the story-line as Joanna, a rich, spoilt, 'girlie girl' living on a luxury yacht with her equally snobby husband. Kurt Russell (Dean) appears on the screen as a carpenter who comes to repair her boat and improve her suite. But snobby Joanna fails to pay him even though the job is done to a high standard. One night Joanna falls 'overboard' looking for her wedding ring and suffers from amnesia. Her husband ignores her broadcast on the television which is run in an effort to find where she is from. Dean sees the dazed Joanna on television and takes it as an opportunity to get revenge. He tells her she is his wife and his four children are hers. Her... Read review
