..., when it has been repeated ,we just never seemed able to watch it .So when a work colleague offered Hubby a loan of the Roots, 25th Anniversary Edition DVD he jumped at the chance .Having said that he has still not watched it ,but I can now say I have finally watched the whole series . Roots was the result of author Alex Haleys attempts to trace his family history . As a black African he knew that one of his ancestors had been snatched from Africa as a young man and transported to America as part of the slave trade .This African slave had tried in vain to hang to part of his identity . ...production.
Music is provided by Bill Conti, and the memorable theme tune is echoed in the various atmospheric music throughout.
Unfortunately, there are no extras on this DVD. There are a few publicity photos on the menus, and some subtitles, but nothing else, which is a real shame considering that the show was such a big hit in its day. Despite this, it is a joy to own the DVDs as I can watch them without the lines and crackles from my old tapes and I would recommend it to people.
The DVD is available from online and offline retailers. I paid £14.99 for mine from www.play.com, but Amazon also sell it and HMV definitely have it in their stores....

Advantages: comprehensive serial on early American Slave problems Disadvantages: you should set aside a lot of time as you will want to watch it all at once
...This is something else..Over 9 hours of classic television history, from 1976/77.
This series contains a cast to drool over, and is faithfully translated on to DVD from the TV series, and is massively better than the early VHS release.
This study of Slavery as seen through the eyes of one family throughout the generations is excellent viewing and for 3 DVDs containing over 9 hours of brilliant imagery, this is a must for any serious movie collector.
From the early capture of the African slave (played by LeVar Burton), we are treated to views of slavery too brutal and yet realistic, to ignore.
With a cast containing such notaries as, Edward Asner, Cicely Tyson, John Amos, Lorne Greene, Sandy Duncan, Lloyd Bridges, Louis Gossett Jnr and Ben Vereen to name just a few, this is a blockbuster in every sense.
The reproduction of the series...
