Hello People!
Well I’m back in the land of the living (sort of), I’ve got my backside into gear, kicked Rachael of the computer and put together the finishing touches of this opinion.
I wrote this a while ago, but never got round to posting it on Ciao. I re-opened it the other day, and what a sight. The opinion was crap, no plot, no nothing. So I’ve just re-wrote and kept a few small pieces of the original text.
CAST:
Jim—Jason Biggs Oz---Chris Klein Kevin---Thomas Nichlos Finch---Eddie Kay Thomas
Directed and produced by Paul and Chris Weitz
‘American Pie’ is one of the funniest films I have ever saw, crude, sickly and a little bit naughty, just my kind of humour. Yes, this film scrapes the barrel for it’s humour but it’s right up my street.
‘There’s Something about Mary’ with a twist, a teenage, acne filled twist. Marvellous!
The storyline looks at a group of four high school friends that are unlucky in love. After a few hilarious, cringe worthy scenes the lads decide to make a pact. The pact being to lose their virginity before the night of their high school prom. The catch? No prostitutes, valid consensual sex.
The film revolves around the four trying to ‘get laid’ before that big night. Jim gets all nervous around the girls, Oz joins the unlikeliest group ‘the school choir’ to get closer to his target, and Kevin is going steady but still hasn’t done the dirty deed. The strangest but in my opinion the most appealing young lad of them all is Finch, who tries to get his name known around the school as being a devil in bed.
Throughout the film the directors give us some great situations and dilemmas with some rib tickling humour that made me wet myself. The contrast of stereotypes between the boys is histerical but also tells us not to judge people on first appearances. The lads are different in every way but they all have one thing in common, they want some bedroom action.
Side splitting humour is brought to us throughout the film, one of the scenes being Jim masturbating with his ‘charlie’ in a sock when his parents walk into the room. He’s practicing for the night. Jim also tries to have intercourse with an apple pie, again his father walks in on him.
My favourite scene though has to be when agaim Jim puts himself in yet another embarrassing situation. Jim strips for a foreign exchange student in his bedroom, and slyly sets his webcam running so his friends can watch him and her ‘shagging’, unbeknown to either of them he sends the wrong link and ends up broadcasting in across the entire school. At that point I was literally pissing myself. Toilet humour at it’s best. You thought I was sad with my Pot Noodles, well I laugh at the most basic of things what’s worse?....Hahaha!...(joke).
Congratulations must be made to the films female cast to though. Natasha Lyonne plays gossipy Jessica, very funny indeed. Alyson Hannigan plays the band camp geek extremely well and again very witty.
So, the conclusion then.
The four teenage friends have a lot to learn about love, sex and relationships and of course at times I thought ‘you prat’ about the boys. But in true bog standard humour style I finished watching the film with a big grin on my face and a pair of wet knickers in the laundry basket. The characters are talented, well portrayed and I hope to see more of them.
The film runs for about 95 mins, which is long enough for me, you don’t need to comcentrate to hard, which is also good for me. Rated 15 because of some nudity and scenes of a sexual nature. Recommend if you like toilet humour, recommended if you can’t concentrate, recommended if you need an easy laugh.
Not recommended if you like Apple Pies.
Cheers.
