American Pie, the teen comedy that set the pace for all others to follow. The plot follows four high school senior boys, through the most exciting and nerve racking, events of their lives so far. Losing their virginity. These four: Jim, Chris, Kevin and Finch, are so unlucky in love that they’re willing to do just about anything to get themselves recognised by girls. One of them, Finch, even pays a girl $200 for a “reputation”; one of them (Chris) tries his luck out in the school Vocal Jazz group; Jim tries his luck with an exchange student and Kevin gets a little advice from his older brother, and a hidden sex manual! These four boys eventually decide to make a pact to definitely lose their virginity on the night of the prom, no matter what it takes. Their well-laid out plans (to seduce their classmates) often backfires with very amusing results. The name of the film comes from Chris telling Jim that 3rd base feels “like warm apple pie”! Jim’s Dad (Eugene Levy) is also a part of the constant hilarity. He tries to understand Jim’s way of thinking, telling him that masturbation is normal, then proceeds to tell Jim about sex and provides some “ naughty books” for Jim to peruse. Allyson Hannigan (Buffy the vampire slayer), Tara Reid (The Big Labowski), Shannon Elisabeth and Mena Suvari (Loser, American Beauty) are the four lucky girls who are prayed upon by the hopeful boys. Seann William Scott (Road Trip, Dude, Where’s my car) plays the part of stiffler, who is by no means unlucky with women, but often makes fun of the boys on their quest. He is the boy in school who everyone classes as cool, who has loads of friends, and whom everyone is secretly jealous of. The stars Jason Biggs and Chris Klein superbly act their parts in this film, not the amateur acting that I was expecting from this film. As a teenage boy I sympathised with their cause, but I think that everyone who remembers being a teenager would thoroughly enjoy this film. This is definitely one of the funniest teen comedies that I have ever seen its brutal honestly about these issues (sex, masturbation and relationships), and what some people will do, makes it even funnier.
