American Pie The Wedding is a Comedy/Romance film which was released in the UK in August 2003. The film was directed by Jesse Dylan who also directed the film How High (2001). American pie The Wedding has a BBFC Rating of 15 due to some mild sex scenes and some swearing, the film has an estimated run time of approximately 98 minutes.
American Pie The Wedding is the third instalment in the series of films which is brought to us by Universal Studios following the huge success of American Pie One and Two. As the name of the film suggests this third instalment of American Pie is about the wedding of Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). We also get to see all of the other familiar characters who appeared in the first two films such as Finch, Kevin and Stifler. The film gets off to a quick start and we see Jim proposing to Michelle within the first few minutes, although anything Jim does never goes to plan and we end up seeing a rather embarrassing scene in the restaurant where he is proposing to Michelle. Right from the start of the film there are quite a lot of funny and embarrassing scenes as well as one or two disgusting ones. I think that the crude humour and idiotic behaviour of some of the characters made the American Pie films as funny as they are.
Alyson Hannigan plays the part of Michelle fairly well; Alyson Hannigan isn't one of the best actresses out there but she plays a good role in the film. One of my main criticisms of the character of Michelle is the fact that she isn't as geeky as she was in the previous two films; she was more grown up although you could tell that there was still that
little bit of the "Band Geek" in her character. One of the main reasons that Michelle isn't as geeky and immature is the fact that she is a few years older, in her early twenties in fact so her school days are a bit behind her. I would have liked to see a little bit more of the Band Geek portrayed in her character than we did. Another thing I liked about the character of Michelle is that fact that we see her more often in this film as she is one of the central characters. It is still fairly evident throughout the film that Michelle is still a sex addict, in the opening of the film we witness Michelle performing a sex act on Jim under the table of a crowded restaurant and as the film progresses there is quite a lot of "Boning and horny" references from the character of Michelle. Michelle comes across as quite a confident character who knows what and when she wants something where as Jim seems a little on the shy side; I think that this is one of the main reasons why the characters well paired.
Jason Biggs plays a big part in the film and appears quite a lot throughout the film, I like the character of Jim mainly because he is really funny and provides quite a few laughs; but he is also quite a sensitive caring character who doesn't like to upset or offend anyone. It was nice to see that the character of Jim hadn't changed much since the previous American Pie films and that the silly school boy humour was still there. I really liked the fact that Jims relationship with Stifler was a little stronger in this sequel because he turned to him for advice and some dance lessons which was pretty funny. Jim tries to see the best in Stifler where as the other friends seem to loathe him.
My favourite character in the film has to be that of Stifler, I think that Seann William Scott is a really talented actor and plays the part of Steve Stifler brilliantly. His character is extremely funny and idiotic one of the main reasons I like Stifler as much is because of his funny facial expressions and jokes which are shown throughout the film. I liked the fact that Stifler played a big part in this film and we got to see more of his character. Steve Stifler provides the biggest amount of laughs in the film and most of the jokes seem to be on him. Stiflers excessive swearing throughout the film also adds a comical aspect to his character because his swearing isn't offensive. The only person who seems to take offence to Stiflers swearing is Finch because Stifler is always calling him Finch-Fucker or Shit-Break. But then again Finch always gets his own back on Stifler because he is more intelligent and educated.
The soundtrack for the film is great also there is a wide range of songs played throughout; the best part is at the dance off in the gay bar which features Stifler. Some of the songs which appear in this film are from artists such as Bananarama, Van Morison, Foo Fighters, Sum41, Annie Lennox and Feeder. The main reason the soundtrack is as good is the film is because the songs are recognisable and ones which I have heard on numerous occasions.
As for special effects there weren't any that stuck in my head but what I was impressed with throughout the film was the make-up and clothes used for the wedding. The whole wedding parties outfits, hair and make-up were stunning especially Michelle's dress. All of the props used for the wedding were great from the flowers right down to the table settings in the reception hall. Everything was thought out brilliantly for the film which was one of the main things which impressed me the most, I didn't think that the props used were going to be as good as they were considering American Pie The Wedding is just another teen style comedy movie. Compared to the previous two films in the sequel this one has the best props and costume design because just about everything was perfect, the props, costume etc used weren't as good at the beginning of the film as they were during the Wedding scenes. But then again everyone wants their wedding to be perfect, so this was portrayed excellently at this part in the film.
American Pie The Wedding is a film that will appeal to a wide audience because of the rude jokes and crude behaviour from some of the characters. One of the main reasons I like this film as much is because of the rude jokes and idiotic behaviour from some of the characters especially Stifler and Finch. Some of the scenes in the film are disgusting but in a really funny way. I love this film and it is one which I could watch over and over again because it is so funny. I have watched this film more than 8 times and I still love it, but then again I like all films which have Seann William Scott in them lol.
If you're a fan of teen style romantic/comedy films which have lots of rude jokes then this is a film which I highly recommend you watch. You can purchase American Pie the Wedding from Amazon and it costs £4.98.
