I have been renting a lot of DVD’S at the minute but don’t like to always get out the same time of film. I have gone through a lot of action and thriller films but this time I was more in the mood for a comedy as you don’t really need to be in a film watching mood for these kinds of films and they usually require little concentration. This time I was looking and came across American Pie Band Camp. I had seen the three previous American Pie films and loved them all as they were hilarious but the only thing is I heard that this one didn’t feature the original cast so it had put me off for a bit. I got over the cast not being original though and decided to watch it and hoped it was good.
The film begins with us being introduced to a film by Stifmeister productions which is now the production company Steve Stifler, Matt’s older brother is running. Matt wants to be like his brother and try and out do him in a film but he
needs to come up with a good idea. However him and his friends don’t like the band group at school and play a trick on them to try and sabotage their musical piece. This works out terribly for the band and Matt is the clear one they know who is behind it so he is sent to the head teacher’s office where he is sentenced to be punished by going to Band Camp for the break.
Matt gets to band camp and before going orders lots of video camera’s so he can spy on all of the girls there and get some video footage to make the film which will outdo his brother’s. Things at band camp don’t start off too well he gets a rival with Brandon a member of the opposing team and both schools are at competition with each other to win because if they win they get a trophy and also Elyse the band conductor has a chance at a scholarship. They have to play different sports activities as well as just playing music to gain points.
As the film begins Matt has no intention of keeping in with the band geeks and tries to have some fun of his own by chatting up the women, thinking he has a chance with the band supervisors. However, these kinds of things get him nowhere as he is then sent to the camp supervisor who soon turns out to be Jim’s Dad, Mr Levenstein from the previous American Pie films. It’s not long before Matt realises that he maybe needs to grow up a bit and start acting like a more of a team with the rest of the band members even though it’s really not his kind of thing.
The film is not one with a really deep plot, it is just a comedy and although it may not sound good from the summary it actually isn’t that bad. It has a lot of immature jokes and a lot of innuendos but it is very well known that the American Pie films are mainly based around sex. The plot in this film was a bit predictable though but that didn’t really make it any more painful too watch. Some of the characters were ok though I think that’s what made this film work the team effort and the whole camp atmosphere really worked well.
So the cast is Matt Stifler (Tad Hilgenbrink) who actually wasn’t bad in this film he was scarily like Steve Stifler from the first though that’s my only fault he was like a miniature clone of the brother and although he is the little brother I doubt he would have been the exact same as him. He was really funny though in the part and some of the lines he came out with really made me laugh it was original material for a change. This film did have some sort of similar gags to some other teen movies but they all copy each other in some way.
Another really good character in this film was Elyse played by (Arielle Kebbel) she was actually a nice character for a change
Overall I think this film would be ideal for those who like really silly teen comedies or if you were a fan of the previous American Pie films. It was in my opinion better than the second American Pie film and although it doesn’t feature the original cast don’t be put off because the same humour is still there. The acting was quite good and it didn’t go on too long it last about the right sort of time it should last.
The film last approximately 87 minutes and is a 15 certificate. It can be bought on Amazon for £6.97 which isn’t too bad.
