So for my second op of the day I have decided to go with the third in the teen movie season American Pie 2, following on from my American Pie and Road Trip op. The sequel to the 1999 hit American Pie, AP 2 was released in 2001 and a third American Wedding is due out this year.
This film is set one year after the events at the prom as we catch up with the characters at the end of their first year at college. Its comedy from the outset as Jim (Jason Biggs) is set to sleep with someone for the first time since his night of passion with Michelle (Alyson Hannigan). But his Dad (Eugene Levy) turns up early to pick him up and walks in on his son in the throws of passion with a girl who he’s persuaded into no strings sex.
We then catch up with the other guys, Oz (Chris Klein), Stifler (Seann William Scott), Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and the girls from the original. They head back home and to the Stifler party house. The cops bust the party and basically close down Stifler's as a party location for the guys and they have to find some alternatives.
So Kevin phones his brother, Noah, to see if he has any ideas for what to do over the summer and he comes up with the idea for the guys to rent a Beach house like he did after his first year away. So the five of them hire out a place and get jobs painting while they are there to make a bit of cash.
Jim of course is preparing himself for the return of Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) so he can try and finish what he tried to start last year. He turns to Michelle for advise on how to have some success with Nadia this time, but after a few embarassing moments he ends up falling in love with Michelle.
Oz has to go for the whole summer without seeing Heather (Mena Suvari) as she has gone on a summer abroad programme. Kevin has to deal with seeing his ex Vicky (Tara Reid) all summer and knowing he can't have her. Finch spends the entire summer pining over Stifler's mum as he doesn't know what has happened to her. As for Strifler well he's just after any girl he sets his eyes on as usual.
Again there are a few stand out moments, in fact for me there are three two of which involve Jim and the other involving Stifler. The first is the Stifler incident with the champagne and a guy taking a leak of the balcony, lets just say its a classic moment. The next incident is Michelle giving Jim a few lessons and ends up shoving a trumpet up his ar*e. The last and probably best moment has got to be when Jim mistakes super glue for lubricant and ends up sticking himself to well himself and of course the porn tape he had in the video recorder.
Jason Biggs return as Jim is probably the key to these films as he comes across brilliantly as the unlucky in love Jim. The choice of Eugenne Levy to play his Dad was justified in the first film but just adds to the appeal with his reaction to the various incidents that befall his son.
The other characters pick up where they left off in the first film with good performances all round. Of course special mention does have to go to Seann William Scott again who takes up the role of Stifler almost like he had never left it. He has obviously picked up a bit of experience since the first film, which added to his acting ability.
The film is in some ways better than the first film, with Jim's visits to Band Camp and the part with the two lesbians who's house they are painting. The film reunites the team behind the original who deliver another quality film. This is recommended for anyone who enjoys a good comedy film or enjoyed either Road Trip or American Pie. Will the third be as good? Well only time will actually tell.

I thought Stifler was even funnier than in the first film, which was brilliant too. I'm not sure about his younger brother though, he was a little annoying.

I liked this film, but didn't think it was as good as the first one myself. Great review again. Chantal

Advantages: Hilariously funny, picks up where the original left off, and includes all the same characters Disadvantages: Rude and crude - may not appeal to some people, and you need to have seen the original to appreciate this one
