To understand this sequel, I have to tell you a little bit about the first "American pie" movie. American Pie came out around the same time as the "Blair which project" with all the net hype surrounding the latter. Despite this, Pie faired pretty well. It was a low budget movie that was to rake in the money at the box office. The story entailed four High school kids that make a pact. They will all try to lose their virginity by the end of year graduation ball. Each student undertakes his own tactics to fulfil this pact and this leads to hilarious consequences.
Now you know a little about the first film, I can tell you about the sequel. Pie 2 takes up the story one year after the first. The four main characters, Jim (Jason Biggs), Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), Oz (Chris Klein) and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas) decide to take a holiday together beside Lake Michigan, enabling them to rekindle their friendship and more importantly, to pick up girls. The four become five with
the much needed inclusion of a new member to the gang, Stifler (Seann William Scott). They all have unresolved issues from the previous year and these problems provide the reoccurring themes throughout the second movie.
Jim is the main character in both these movies and most of the action surrounds him. An interesting character who is obsessed with a beautiful exchange student. He strikes up a "relationship" with the kooky Michelle (Alyson Halligan) a Flute playing nerd obsessed with "Band Camp". The main aspect of this characters life that brings in the most laughs (other than scenes with Michelle maybe) is his relationship with his father. Well meaning and forever attempting to be a modern parent, Jim's father made me laugh out loud the most. You can really relate to the embarrassment he causes Jim.
Finch, supposedly the most intelligent and definitely the most eccentric, his main storyline revolves around a relationship with an older woman from the first movie. No more will be said about this as it would be a major film spoiler.
Oz, Mr mega stud, the only member of the group that attracts the ladies with ease! Obsessed with his absent girlfriend Heather (Mena Suvari) he plays a very minor part in the film, really just a straightman for some of the gags.
Kevins main storyline is based on the anticipated reunion with his ex girlfriend Vicky (Tara Reid). Very dull and for me, this aspect of the film could quite easily have been dropped without any adverse affect!
Stifler, my hero, a major goofball. He gets more of the action in the second movie than he did in the first and the whole film is better for it. His role in the film is to make you laugh at his stupidity and lack of sensitivity. For me his additional input really makes the film. It's a shame his character wasn't in the first film as much, because he probably would have made that better too!
I really enjoyed the first movie, with toilet humour in abundance the sequel is also very enjoyable. Obviously with films of this nature, there are not going to be any Academy award nominations, but the acting is of a high enough standard to draw you in. However, I have one major grievance with the sequel. Basically if you have not seen American pie, many references in the sequel will just fly over your head. That being said, you can watch it and laugh as it is a comedy in it's own right. But take my advice, rent out American pie before seeing the sequel and you will get to enjoy both movies fully! As per usual, the ending leaves the opportunity for a third movie, so if you enjoy these films, you can probably look forward to another. I have heard nothing official, but trust me on this one! I just hope American pie doesn't follow in the footsteps of the "Police Academy" theme that just made too many sequels and became very stale!
Oh a final little bit of trivia for you. There was a "Stiflers dad" character filmed, but failing to be popular when viewed by test audiences, he was removed from the story!

Advantages: The same brand of humour as the first; all the familiar characters and the same laughs. Like being re-acquainted with an old friend. If you liked the first film there's plenty to enjoy. Disadvantages: The same brand of humour as the first; all the familiar characters and the same laughs. Like being re-acquainted with an old friend who has become slightly stale since you last met them. If you disliked the first film don't bother.
