The guys are back from university and that can only mean one thing a summer of more joking around, more drinking and more partying. For the audience this means two more hours of fun filled viewing. All the cast are reunited in this film. Stifler, (Seann Williams) has not matured at all, making him even funnier and Finch, (Eddie Kaye Thomas) has changed into a Japanese speaking, sophisticated guy. He is still madly passionate about Stifler’s mum, ‘the master of sexual discipline’. Jim, (Jason Biggs) is as unlucky as ever and the MILF guy ever makes a small appearance. Apparently he was some random person asked to do that line in the first film. Oz (Chris Klein) and Heather (Mena Suvari) are still together and Jessica is her usual, down to earth self.
The storylines from American Pie are carried on somewhat through this film, which is good because it makes the viewers feel closer to the characters as they already know a lot about them. It also makes the jokes and situations some of the
characters find themselves in more believable. People who have seen the first film will understand the relationship between Jim and his dad, so when they come together in this film the jokes are that much funnier. It is the same with the Stifler, his mum and Finch story as well as many others. This kind of means seeing the first film before hand helps the comedy aspect of this film.
To bring everyone back together the guys set off to a beach house for the summer. While Finch sets his heart on meeting a certain mature lady, Jim prepares himself for the arrival of a certain European girl. His usual unluckiness means he finds himself in all sorts of hilarious situations, I will not spoil it by telling you about them but the word glue should give you some ideas. Similarly, Stifler gets himself into situations through his search for beautiful girls. The partying and working, as painters of things, goes on through the summer and although they are all loving it they decide they need something unforgettable to end the summer with. This ends up being one huge house party which, like the prom in the first film, is were everything is sorted and the four friends, Finch, Jim, Oz and Kevin re-realize what they have together.
American Pie Two carries on the idea that true friendship lasts though, whatever may happen. This can be seen in Vicky’s and Kevin’s up and down relationship with each other. As well as this Jim learns a lot in his relationship with Michelle about what a good friend is, oh and he gets to go to band camp, which can’t be bad ?! Like in American Pie everything for each person turns out for the best and everyone gets what they want even if through the film they do not know quite what that is. A small mention about the most hilarious moment, where Stifler tests his friend’s commitment to the limit in the search for his own fantasy coming true, it is absolutely brilliant.
The sets in this film add to that fun loving, careless summer days feeling with beach side scenes and towns full surfers and babes and roof down cars. The music is as good, if not better than that from the original film but the one or two outstanding tracks, Blink 182 and Harvey Danger, are missing (read my AP soundtrack review for more info, sorry not supposed to do that, but wouldn’t want you missing out). I think the best tracks are done by American Hi-Fi – Vertigo, Sum 41 – Fat Lip and Left Front Tire – Bring You Down they are all really cool and funky. But there are many other great songs that go brilliantly with type of film that it is. Behind the film the original team of American Pie are there. Adam Herz, Chris and Paul Weitz and the rest of the crew have managed to make the film different without being disconnected and yet having original jokes and innovating storylines.
So American Pie Two, a cool film. People who could not get enough of the first one are going to love this and if you like embarrassing, innocent comedy I cannot see why you are not going to like the film. Hey, it is similar to the first one but who cares, it was brilliant and so is American Pie Two. Enjoy.
