This is a powerful film about racism, and when you watch it, it makes you think what life would really be like, if everything were like that. The beginning of the film has parallels, with the end especially the deaths of the two people.
I like this film as it gives an insight into the mind of a racist, and then it’s ultimate reversal, and change. The opening scene is gruesome, the killing of the black man is shocking.
The film is about a nazi family who is brought up in believing that blacks are inferior to them. The son takes revenge of his Dad’s killing by shooting a black man, and end up in jail.
Inside his character changes however his younger brother is becoming more and more like him. He is becoming his brother all over again. And it’s ironic that the older brother is transforming, his friendship with a black man is making him look at a wider picture.
This is a powerful film, which touches every emotion, it’s sad, traumatic and the ending makes you realise that actions have drastic circumstances.
Such a well made film, with such a good ending, my sheer unbelief when the character started to show signs of transforming. Their education’s of life comes to late as one of them is sacrificed.
I supposed the saying goes to change is better than not to change. It really makes me think that when ‘real’ racists are watching films like these, what their view is.
Films like ‘A Time To Kill’ ad this one, send such a powerful messages only those with sheer ignorance could ignore it.
American History X is an excellent film which deserves the applauds for scripts and the acting.
