While Stan is a member of the CIA, his wife Francine stays home, his son Steve who is quite nerdy finds new ways to try and get girls and his daughter Hayley is politically opposed to him in every way. In addition to these family members the household also entails an alien hiding out from the American government, Roger, he saved Stan’s life so now Stan’s indebted to him. Finally there is Claus the loveable goldfish, only he is actual an x-German Olympic skier who had his mind swapped into the body of a goldfish by the CIA. American dad is an outrageous American style comedy brought to you by the creators of Family guy. Season one is just as funny as any of the Family guy series if not better, in the way that it is even more outrageous.
Disc one has four immense episodes on it, with a running time of 83 minutes. It includes the pilot episode which is one of my favourites owing to the opening couple of minutes when the fish aptly named Claus comes onto Francine Stan's wife.
Disc 1 Episode 1 Pilot: The taster that brought forth the flood of outrageous, over the top comedy that is American Dad. The episode is based around Stan's son Steve who is having a little trouble with the ladies; oh we've all been there. But what none of us had was a CIA operative father to help us rig a school election to make us president. Because women do love power, don’t they? Watch the episode for the not so expected outcome.
Episode 2 Threat Levels: A memorable episode which kicks off with Stan believing he has drunk a deadly chemical instead of his coffee and getting the whole family quarantined. Believing they have 24 hours to live tensions are high and siblings clash between Hayley and Steve as she comes to say goodbye. However no one dies and the event is over, although the experience leaves Francine a changed woman, she wishes to dedicate herself to something more then the home and finds herself a job. Steve has no problem with the idea and even lands her, her first job through various connections of his although tensions soon escalate when Francine begins to earn more in a single sale then Steve makes in a month.
Episode 3 Stan knows best: A raunchy episode, Stan disagrees with Hayley's choice in her boyfriend, driven to move out Hayley moves in with her boyfriend but it turns out he lives in a van. In desperation for money Hayley takes a bar job and soon becomes interested in the stripper profession due to the large amounts of cash they rake in. In no time Hayley becomes a stripper and all goes well until her father turns up at the place and sees her. While all this is going on Steve is trying to get himself some action and is forced to use Roger the family alien to get it. Claiming Roger is his little sister who suffered a horrible burning incident and is now scarred for life Steve makes headway until Roger gets over-emotional and loses the plot. Everything comes together in the end with Hayley moving back in and Steve formulating more plans in his bid for boob.
Episode 4 Francine's flashback: This episode focuses on the relationship between Francine and Stan. When he forgets their anniversary...again! Stan is forced to take Francine to the CIA headquarters and has her memory erased for the past 24 hours. However it the operations botched and Francine ends up losing the past 24 years of her memory. Stan is forced to make Francine fall in love with him all over again, which for a CIA stiff isn’t as easy as it sounds when you're dealing with a middle aged rebel with the mind of a teenager. Ending up at burning man a Woodstock like festival, Stan tracks Francine down and tries to make her remember. In the end Stan gives up hope but just as all seems lost Francine remembers and all is saved.
Run Time: 83 minutes Language: English Subtitles: English Special Features: None
The second disc has 5 episodes all are funny but some are more memorable then others my favourites on this disc are Deacon Stan Jesus man and Homeland insecurity simply for the reason that they are the most outrageous in my opinion.
Disc 2 Episode 5 Rodger Codger: A new arrival at the CIA bests Stan’s time on the CIA assault course, claiming Stan’s complimentary victory muffin, it’s the first time he has been beaten and he becomes convinced agent Dooper is out to get his job. In a bid to save himself Stan and wife Francine invite Deputy Director Bullock over for tea. The meal goes well until Roger comes down from the attic in search of booze and ends up hiding from the Deputy Director in the bathroom with Stan. Mistaking Stan’s shouts for cries of help Bulock races in to find Stan covered in green slime. The evening does not end well. Prior to this Stan vents his anger on the ill Roger causing him to fall into a state of unconsciousness. When Roger awakens he finds himself in a State dump and is forced to don a disguise and find his way home.
Episode 6 Homeland Insecurity: Stan helps Francine set up a neighbourhood party at their house in order to win over the neighbours as Francine feels she has lost touch with everyone around her. All goes well Stan even goes so far as to be ‘funny.’ Until he meets the neighbourhoods new arrivals, seen only in Stan’s mind as ‘the terrorists.’ As the party warms up Steve accidentally sets fire to a small wooden podium and the smoke makes Stan believe that the terrorists are attacking, long story short the new neighbours end up locked up in Stan’s backyard and are not allowed to leave upsetting Francine. There are many standoffs between husband and wife including a gun stand off. In the end Stan locks up the entire neighbourhood as he fears the terrorists have spread their influence and are not unlike ‘vampires or gays.’ Francine brings Stan around in the end and convinces the majority of the hostages that it is simply a theme party. However the ‘terrorists’ understand the truth but are unfazed by Stan’s behaviour commenting that their last neighbours were a lot worse.
Episode 7 Deacon Stan, Jesus Man: Stan and his neighbour are always competing over everything; according to Stan he has “A bigger house, a larger pay check, a nicer wife, and better kids.” In order to beat his nemesis Chuck White Stan runs for Deacon at his local church against White after White volunteers. Using Francine’s potato salad and help from Carl Road, reminiscent of a Sith Lord. The secret ingredient to Stan’s success turns out to be a secret ingredient in the potato salad of Francine’s. This ingredient in turn actually is Roger’s breast milk as he is in his reproductive state. After being over-milked when to much potato salad is needed Steve becomes impregnated after giving Roger CPR and swallowing the egg. This in turn gets passed on to Whites daughter when the pair kisses she is sent away. Disgraced by her parents, now she can no longer do gymnastics.
Episode 8 All About Steve: Stan disowns his son for being too much of a geek, he only realises this after he gets his son and friends into the Yankee locker room and they don Star Trek uniforms and start talking into walkie talkies. However later in the episode Stan is forced to rely on his son for his knowledge in order to catch a criminal mastermind of cyberspace. Stan does not enjoy the batting cages with his father and even cries as he leaves, with bumps and bruises he thanks his father but only wants to do dork things. Roger experiments with yet more beauty products, I still don’t know what gender he is male I’d guess with the name but who knows. Roger gets a job as a PR for juice drinks and gets into a dispute over turf with the taco King, he also goes to a sci-fi convention in order to fit in and interact with humans.
Episode 9 Bullocks to Stan: After a senior member of the CIA retires due to a severe illness, Stan goes after his job, Bullocks tells him it’s in the works but he has an important mission for him first which happens to be picking up Bullocks dry cleaning. Jeff and Hayley break up and guess who Hayley replaces him with, none other then Deputy Director Bullock, her father’s boss. Steve manages to get hold of Dick Chanie’s Mobil with Satan’s Mobil number at the CIA 30th anniversary fair. When Stan finds out about the pair sleeping together he manages to keep his nerve in exchange for his long overdue promotion at work. One of the coolest fight scenes ever is between Deputy Director Bullock and Stan.
Run Time: 104 minutes Language: English Subtitles: English Special Features: None
The third and final disc contains 2 normal episode and one two part special including deleted scenes and special features.
Disc 3 Episode 10 A Smith in the Hand: Stan doesn’t like Steve’s college teaching him about sex Ed, so he decides to teach a class about sex Ed himself, which only Steve attends. Stan tries to protect his son but teaches him all the wrong things and in the end Francine is forced to intervene and tell her son that exploration and changes are natural and there’s nothing wrong with it and nothing to be ashamed of. During Stan’s lessons however there is a repercussion to Stan. Stan gets injured during his lessons and ends up discovering the joys of self-gratification; however he loses control and interest in his wife and finds it impossible to kick the habit.
Episode 11 Con Heir Stan quits the CIA to go to work with his father in what he believes is a super secret organisation. However this organisation in reality does not exist and his father, who Stan believes to be perfect, turns out to be a thief. Stan is forced to take down his father. Francine did not like Stan’s father anyway, and is the first to find out about his real life. However Stan’s father turns him against Francine and she is locked up in the basement so the two can go rob a bank.
Episode 12 Stan of Arabia part one Stan annoys Bullocks by ruining his surprise party and he is reassigned to Saudi Arabia where women are second class citizens. Stan and Steve love it so much they don’t want to go back; Stan even turns down the offer to have his job back. Francine becomes more and more depressed and discovers the ideal of multiple wives. While Hayley meets a nice local boy who lets slip that he is a member of Al Qaeda. Stan’s new assignment is to protect an oil pipeline.
Episode 13 Stan of Arabia part two Francine loses control strips off and parades around in her underwear in public. She is later arrested and Stan is forced to find a way to get her out, however the American embassy refuses to help him as Stan in a mad rage renounces their citizenship. Steve gets stuck in the desert after crashing his car and is visited by god in the form of Angelina Jolie who agrees to show him her boobs (brad wont be happy if he ever sees that lol.) Hayley sleeps with her new boyfriend and finds out he is no Terrorist but a food salesman. The entire family is then sentenced to death by stoning but manage to escape back to America

Advantages: Excellent characters, funny story - lines, brilliant scripts . Disadvantages: Will eventually become slightly stale like family guy .
== What is American Dad? ==
American dad is a animated television series made for 20th Century Fox and was created by Seth MacFarlane who also created Family Guy. American Dad follows CIA agent Stan Smith and his family and their events and adventures much like Family Guy does.
== The Cast ==
Seth MacFarlane as Stan (CIA Agent), Roger (The Alien)
Wendy Schaal as Francine (The Wife)
Rachael MacFarlane as Hayley (The Daughter)
Scott Grimes as ... ...to admit i actually prefer American Dad to it. The reason being is i find the plots and adventures to be far funnier. And the characters to be alot more interseting and each one be equally funny on there own whereas Family Guy's main humour comes from Peter and Brian. Whereas in American Dad Roger, Stan, Steve, Hayley are all equally funny and can have a whole episode focused on them and still have it be very funny.

Advantages: Great political satire and the animation is very slick. Disadvantages: Some of the episodes are quite predictable.
American Dad is a great satirical cartoon show that is bound to amuse you. The series focuses around one American family and each episode has a fresh new comical tale with very little relation to the last (much like The Simpson's). Stan Smith (the main character) is a xenophobic CIA agent who's very security conscious and expects pretty much everyone of being a terrorist. His wife, Francine, is your stereotypical American-suburban mother with aspiration ... ...to poke fun at the American government and the American way-of-life and does so very successfully. It highlights and perhaps only slightly exaggerates the current climate of fear in America and does well to show the folly of such reservations, of course whilst making you laugh very hard indeed. The show is very fresh and original whilst fans of Family Guy will still be able to relate to its style and humour. From male pregnancy, rigged elections, ...

...present because I'd been watching American dad online so much. I love American dad, I think its very funny and as is made by the people who made family guy is very similar. The family set up is even similar with 2 parents a male and female child and in American dad a talking alien as opposed to a talking dog. I love this genre of cartoons for adults. Stan is an all American man with very conservative views, which is nicely juxtaposed by his daughter ... ...American Dad is good at dealing with topical issues. My favorite season one episode is "Homeland Insecurity" which deals with people's perceptions of race. Stan's family has new neighbours who are of Iranian decent, but who are actually American born and bred. Stan immediately has prejudices against them, immediately feeling they are terrorists because of their race. As Stan is a CIA agent he goes to extreme measures (keeping them captive in his ...

American Dad - Season 1 is a collection of the first 13 episodes from the first season of American Dad, from the pilot up to the two parter, "Stan of Arabia". Yep, you heard me right; the boxset entitled Season 1 doesn't even contain all the episodes from the first season! To me it just smacks of trying to get more money out of the fans of this show. The next DVD has the second half of season one and the first half of season two, which is a bit strange ... ...Arabia and eventually renounces his American citizenship after he finds out in the male dominated world of Saudi Arabia, he can have all he ever wanted, and "Homeland Insecurity", where new neighbours move in next door to Stan. He finds out that they are Iranian, and so immediately suspects them as terrorists. He begins watching them constantly and becomes more and more paranoid. Advantages: Very funny; Great characters Disadvantages: Only 13 episodes in this set; Will always be compared to Family Guy
...As weird as it sounds, American Dad works really well. Just when Family Guy had started to get dull and predictable, creator Seth McFarlane turns round and brings out this gem. It seems to me that it is very under-rated having reached quite a small proportion of the population. This has to change. American Dad is one of the funniest things on TV at the moment.
The characters are all interesting. Stan constantly nurtures his geeky son, trying to ... ...include a live reading of American Dad in front of an audience which is both interesting and entertaining. In all - a great box set. Unfortunately it only contains the first half (13 episodes) of the series, ending with part 2 of Stan of Arabia (a great episode). A great satirical look at America from an American himself gives a refreshing take on America-bashing. To take a phrase from Roger the alien: American Dad, oh my god, oh my god, American ...

Family Guy was such a huge success when it first hit our screens, but surely a comedy so similar by the same creators couldnt better it? Think again!
AmericanDad, by the creators of Family Guy, is about the lifestyles of a not so ordinary American family.
The Smith family consist of the following:-
Stan - is the alpha male of the family. Hes a big built, gun crazed CIA agent, constantly aware of any suspiciousness from the locals or even neighbors. He'll fight crime no matter what!
Francine - is the wife of Stan. She plays the typical housewife role, while also have the so called ditzy blonde approach to things.
Hayley - is the eldest of the kids. Being a young adult shes always upto mischeif while also can be seen as a hippy, completely against the majority of her dads views.
Steve - the youngest of the kids. Steves the geeky ...
