There was quite a lot of hype concerning American Beauty, but unlike films such as Blair Witch Project, it answered it with a truly memorable, thought-provocing, brilliant and totally original film. I always look forward to any film with Kevin Spacey in the cast list because, in my opinion, he is the best actor in the world, and I have never seen him in a bad film.
American Beauty is 100% original and makes you go away thinking about your existance from a completely different angle. The ending, which I will not tell you because it will ruin it for you, still leaves question marks in your head about what actually happened (p.s. this is not a criticism at all, it makes the film all the more intriguing.) The story, although not unpredictable, is facinating, and the range of characters is incredible.
Everyone in the film acted absolutely superbly, Annette Bening, Thora Birch, Allison Janney and Peter Galagher, but especially Kevin Spacey. His acting was breathtaking. The soundtrack is also very good. Listen out for the tune played at the very start of the film. It's by a band called Jakarta and it will be a big hit in the UK some time in the near future.
The graphics, although there were not that many, were amazing. The roses falling from the ceiling was brilliant graphics. If someone hadn't told me that it's graphics then I would have thought it was real.
The film is disturbing at times, but this adds to the incredible tension and overall effect of the film.
