This is one of those films which isn't just a copy of another one but with different characters. American Beauty is different, in a vewy good way.
The plot follows a man who lives the 'American Dream' lifestyle; doting wife, darling daughter, two cars and a nice house in the suburbs. Sounds nice, no?
Well, not really.
Thing is, he's bored of living in the suburbs, his wife is a control freak who takes her mantra a little too seriously, and her daughter is a moody bint with a bimbo best friend (who is actually very fit).
Her dad fancies her best mate (understandably), so he sets out to bed her. Meanwhile, his wife is having an affair with a bloke with very large eyebrows, and moody bint daughter is humping the boy next door, who has a fetish for video cameras.
And that's all in the first 20 minutes.
None of the actors are well known for being in anything (although camera fetish guy looks strikingly like Kelly Jones from the 'Phonics), but they are all excellent in this film. You dont have to be a star to be good. In fact, most stars are pants, but loads of people earn money they dont deserve. David Beckham is a good example. £20k a week to kick a ball around, when he probably cant even spell his own name. What is the world coming to? Hang on, this is turning into a rant. Don't want that to happen.
So people, if you're looking for something conventional, give this one a miss. If you're game for a laugh, and not easily offended, then watch it.
