Alvin and the Chipmunks is in my opinion a brilliant piece of family entertainment. It is clean, light and humorous, which are for me the most important factors.
Alvin and the Chipmunks is a film targeted at children and ells the story of three chipmunks, Simon, Alvin and Theodore, whoa re discovered as great singers by the currently crashing and burning songwriter Dave Seville. The Chipmunks however cause Dave no end of problems, wrecking his house, his friendship with Clare and ultimately loosing him his job.
In an attempt to redeem themselves the "boys" pay Ian, a record producer, a visit and perform for him. Within no time they have been flung into the showbiz spotlight and are living life to the max. All however is not as rosy as it may seem as the Chipmunks want themselves and Dave to be a family, which is something Dave simply cannot comprehend. Not realising what they are getting themselves in for the Chipmunks flock to Uncle 'Ian' in search of this family atmosphere.
Ian offers the Chipmunks this and much more and by doing so diverts their attention from the fact that he is simply exploiting them in order to line his own pockets. Will they realise before things get too much for them? And will Dave ever come to see just what he is missing?
I really enjoyed Alvin and the Chipmunks from the start, as this film really is a little bundle of fun. The songs really liven up the story and coupled with the extremely humorous antics of the Chipmunks, which are themselves really cute and loveable, this film is definitely one for the collection.
The mischievous little Chipmunks really are little fur balls of fun and this story really shows this off. Some great animation and some really jazzed up toe-tapping tunes makes this film a real pleasure to watch. I myself though will admit that it isn't the sort of film that you'll love to watch over and over again although I'm sure a lot of children will, as I'd hazard a guess that the somewhat squeaky, although very cute on first viewing, voices of the chipmunks may become a little irritating after a few views.
This however does not distract from the fact that this film is a fantastic piece of family fun and because of the musical element to it I am certain that it will keep the entire family entertained throughout.
All the chipmunks are asking for is a family... could you be the family for them?
