DVD Description
Whereas some families pull together in the face of tragedy, the death of Jim Ferris (Danny Huston, THE CONSTANT GARDENER) leaves his family in tatters. None is more so affected than his 10-year-old son Jack (Mark Wells, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA - THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE), who must shoulder the considerable burden of looking after his family. When Jim's widow Alice (Jennifer Ehle, WILDE, POSSESSION) eventually remarries, Jack becomes estranged from the rest of the clan, and it isn't until his 21st birthday that they are reunited. Although time has dulled the pain, unpleasant memories resurface and threaten to overshadow the festivities. First-time writer-director Dan Wilde elicits memorable performances from a fine ensemble cast, in this beautifully realised tale of life, death, and familial discord.

Review: A heart-wrenching tale of life, love and loss (Company, 18/12/2006)

This is a Gosford Park for the Google age (Financial Times, 18/12/2006)
Advantages: Good storie line Disadvantages: ending is very sad, same body as a lot of other movies
...Alpha Dog is a good movie. Justin Timderlakes performance were satisfactory. The movie struck me at what could happen if you take things to far. The movie has cool soundtracks and all the GAngsta effects and so on. Its about a drug dealer Johnny (Emile Herch)who captures the brother(Anton Yelchin) of someone who oughns him money. Sharon Stone plays the loving caring mother of the brother and she's ugly at the end. There are pretty and sexy girls, booze and drugs!! Someone lost his virginity and so forth. Well my girlfriend couldn't watch the end and I must say it is traumatic and so unfair. Well a good movie but it could have been better. Some thing just are so common in movie sthese days like the kidnapping and girls, drugs and booze.
Well if you're a JT fan its a pretty good performance by him.Bruce Willis is him cool self in the film...

Advantages: Amazing film and it makes you feel raw emotions! Disadvantages: Ruins your make up! :P
...This is the best film I have ever watched!! It is moving and I have watched it about 5 times so far and I love it! It is an emotional movie and I cried loads. This film is about living the high life, until it all goes wrong, one stupid mistake ruined so many peoples lives, which included lives that weren't even included in most of the film. Emile Hirsch who plays Johnny Truelove and Justin Timberlake who plays Frankie Ballenbacher, play amazing roles and the acting is perfect!! Anton Yelchin who plays Zach Mazursky does an amazing job of portraying this true life event and his innocence throughout the whole film just made it 10/10 for me. In the movie it shows that there were so many witness and it makes you think how something like this could go so far. Stylishly and thoughtfully directed by Nick Cassavetes, Alpha Dog is occasionally...

Advantages: EXITING AND REALISTIC WESTERN Disadvantages: NONE
...of poverty, a rebelious son who sees an opening as AlphaMale and his own severe war handicap thats left him with a tin foot.
But he is also that pillar of many western films-a decent man Christian Bale lends him a heart of frontier integrity. Hes the one who volounteers himself to escort the prisoner to the railway station. The pair become bound together as events snowball to their tense and bloody confusion.
We can sense that Wade is drawn to Evans in a way he can see his own obverse character.
The original source is an Elmore Leoraud story that was filmed first in 1957 directed by Delmar Davies an equally good effort with Glenn Ford as Wade and Van Helfin as Evans. Ford especially notable playing against type as the dangerously seductive outlaw. James Mangolds new film adheres fairly closely to the previous apart from a big departure...
