Walking the West Highland Way

Advantages: Amazing scenery, good company, great excersize!
Disadvantages: Midges Midges and More Midges

roads (wide cobbled paths through mountains and wild places that were used to transport cattle to markets), and military roads (good old General Wade gets a look in here) - so you have this real sense of walking in history, because the people who used these roads are long dead, along with the way of life that needed such roads. The West Highland Way is officially 95 miles, but can work out at around 100 once you do all the walking in between ( like to b&b's and train stations at either end of the walk). The WHW starts at Milngavie (pronounced Millguy) which is at the north outskirts of Glasgow and goes all the way to Fort William, at the foot of Ben Nevis, which is of course the highest mountain in Britain. *****When to Walk The WHW***** The best time to walk the WHW is May/June time, when the midges are not so bloodthirsty ...

The West Highland Way, Scotland

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, good for fitness, raise money!
Disadvantages: Bad weather dependant on the season

I decided I would do the West Highland Way in August/September last year over a period of 6 days. I do not regret that decision one little bit. The West Highland Way is a 95 mile walk from just north of Glasgow (Milngavie) to Fort William which sits at the foot of Britains highest mountain, Ben Nevis. It is a beautiful walk taking in some of the most beautiful scenery on our island. you can, of course, choose to walk the other way but I had been warned that it is a little more difficult as there are more steep climbs going the other way, whereas the climb is more gradual from south to north. It is up to tthe individual or group as to how many days to take for the walk. The same can be said for where to stop and stay over. There are a number of towns and villages on the way with accommodation ranging from camping sites to ...

West Highland Terriers.

Advantages: Healthy pedigree, charming, playful, happy to see you, active, intelligent
Disadvantages: Need to be socialised / desensitised early. Often puppy farmed

very long shifts, and i was out probably 7 hrs a day working. Westies are quite good at being left alone - although not recommending this is ideal obviously. That said, if you do ever have a problem with barking / whining when youre out, this only ever occured with Rosie when we'd been lazy on walking her... give her a walk and leave on a radio and she was fine all working day. Tired dogs dont bark. Westies are brainy so if you leave them with dog toys like the Kong chew, where the treats are in the ball, this will stimulate them and distract them from barking. Just as a by-the-bind, we never had any problems with chewing etc. Think westies are more chasers than chewers - a tennis ball will go a long way in pleasing your little terrier. In terms of walks - my experience was stimulation is more important - toys interaction etc. That ...
