Writer-director John Hamburg, (writer of ZOOLANDER and MEET THE PARENTS), teams once again with Ben Stiller to make an offbeat character study that is guaranteed to induce helpless...
more...laughter. Reuben, an overanxious insurance risk analyst (Stiller), weighs his every action by assessing pros and cons. He finds himself dumped on his honeymoon by fickle wife Lisa (Debra Messing) who runs off with Jacques, a nudist scuba instructor (Hank Azaria). A few days later, Reuben is back in New York at a pretentious gallery opening, wondering why he's bothering to test the waters so soon, when along comes Polly Price (Jennifer Aniston), a quirky, worldly, adventurous soul, whose only flaw appears to be a generalised lack of commitment. The formerly germ-obsessed, controlling Reuben is transformed by Polly's free spirit, her predilection for spicy food, and her pet ferret. Her love of salsa dancing makes him jealous and painfully uncomfortable. But his heart is aflame.
Hamburg, who began his directorial career with SAFE MEN, has proven himself a reliable producer of charming realism and a brand of comedy comparable to that of the Farrelly brothers. Editor William Kerr has an extraordinary sense of comic timing, which gives ALONG CAME POLLY's funny factor a boost. Stiller's salsa solo is striking--the actor is actually an amazing dancer. Last but not least, Philip Seymour Hoffman (PUNCH DRUNK LOVE, FLAWLESS) nearly steals the show as Reuben's best friend Sandy Lyle who plays both Jesus and Judas in a community production of GODSPELL.

Full review
I've wanted to watch this for quite a while now but being the cheapskate that I am, I waited for it to come out to rent so I wouldn't have to pay ridiculous prices at the cinema lol.

I've heard a lot of bad things about this film and a lot of comments that Jennifer Anniston can't act etc but I have to admit, after watching it and giving it a good grilling I really have to say that I loved it!

*** What is 'Along Came Polly'? ***

It's your wedding day, you're completely in love and things are going perfect. You jet off on your honeymoon, arrive safely and happily, you're having a great time on the beach. In fact things couldn't get any better. And they don't. In fact it's safe to say your whole life gets turned upside down in one afternoon when you find your husband/wife in bed with another person. Well that's exactly what happened to Reuben Feffer.

Reuben married Lisa Kramer thinking he would live happily ever after, he even bought a house that they had been dreaming about as a surprise for his new wife. Then the first afternoon of their honeymoon after meeting a nude french man on the beach, he found his life tipped upside down when his wife left him. Reluctantly he leaves her there and goes off to wallow at home.

It doesn't take long for news to travel so as soon as he arrives home, Reuben finds everyone already knows what happened, including his best friend Sandy Lyle. Sandy takes him to posh party and there he runs into an ex school friend called Polly Prince.

Now Reuben is the safest person you'll ever meet because he works as a risk-averse insurance salesman. He knows everything about risks and he does his best to avoid them. He also wants to commit and get married and settle down. On the other hand Polly is totally against commitment, she has to be in control of everything and she isn't afraid to take any risks. So expect to see a couple of collisions between the two throughout the film.

A few dates and would you believe Polly and Reuben are actually falling for each other, Reuben more than Polly. So how will they both take it when Lisa returns with her bags claiming to be back for good? Well you'll just have to find out!

*** The Main Cast ***
The film couldn't be a success if it didn't have the right actors/actresses working with it and I feel with this cast you shouldn't be disappointed!
Ben Stiller = Reuben Feffer
Jennifer Anniston = Polly Prince
Phillip Seymour Hoffman = Sandy Lyle
Debra Messing = Lisa Kramer

Ben Stiller is possibly one of the funniest actors around on our screens today. He has starred in so many great films including 'There's Something About Mary' and 'Meet the Parents'. He's also currently in the process of making a follow on film from meet the parents called 'Meet the Fockers' which I will definitely be watching!

Jennifer Anniston has had it a little rough from people since she started in movies, and although people gave her a lot of credit from 'The Good Girl', there are still people who claim she can't act. However in this film I feel she gives a great, strong performance and I look forward to seeing more from her in the future.

Phillip Seymore Hoffman is someone I don't recognize the name of but he's been in quite a lot of films including 'Cold Mountain' and 'Almost Famous'. He's quite funny in this film so I might keep a look out for any other films he stars in.

Debra Messing = Now I didn't know her real name but Debra is Grace from 'Will and Grace' the TV series. I recognized her straight away and it was great to see her in a film but also strange. Although I like her in Will and Grace, I wasn't too convinced about her performance in this film. She was definitely one of the weaker actresses on set.

*** Runtime and certified information ***

This film runs for just 90 minutes (one and a half hours) and it is a 12 certificate so suitable for most. It is mainly a comedy but there are some 'suggestive' scenes in it that just wouldn't be suitable for children.

*** Scenes you mustn't miss! ***

Some scenes to look out for that I found the funniest are:

1) The Blind Ferret
This was both cute and funny. Some people may find it offensive but I feel most people will take it as harmless comedy.

2) Salsa dancing
Reuben and Polly go salsa dancing for the first time and Reubens dancing is not to be missed!

3) My final scene recommendation is when Reuben goes to the toilet at Polly's house...a classic which reminds me of my fiance because it's something he would do lol.

All of them and many more aren't to be missed!

*** My overall verdict ***

I absolutely loved this film. It was a nice, feel good comedy which really came together well. It kept me laughing all the way through and there wasn't any part of the film that was slow going. Although this will be classed as mainly a chick flick, I feel this is one the guys could enjoy too. So if you're looking for a funny, easy to watch film that will lift your mood, grab yourself a copy of this and have a great night!
