I've wanted to watch this for quite a while now but being the cheapskate that I am, I waited for it to come out to rent so I wouldn't have to pay ridiculous prices at the cinema lol. Advantages: Good cast, stellar support by Baldwin and Hoffman.
Disadvantages: Weak gags, shallow, not as good as it could be

...so expect a few bumps along the way. It's pretty predictable stuff to be honest but it's Hoffmans Sandy Lyle and Baldwins Indursky that helps the film punch above its weight. Predictability aside, worse is the lack of screen chemistry between the two main protagonists. If you're going to have a romantic comedy then the two leads have to sizzle and pop like bacon in a pan and the electricity has to be palpable between them. Despite Stiller's and ...
...The director seems to be more interested in setting up the next comedic set-piece and relying on comedy 'staples' than developing the relationship between Reuben and Polly. Witness the first date between the two - after digesting an almost unpalatable ethnic meal, Reubens irritable bowel syndrome decides to make an appearance giving cues for lots of toilet-related hi-jinks.
