occupation of France, succeeding because of its sheer lunacy, and the amiable performance of veteran character actor Gordon Kaye, as café owner René Artois. René finds himself surrounded by buffoonish German officers, who are easily duped yet still keep René on his toes, and sometimes in hot water. He also must juggle the imperious French Resistance leader, Michelle DuBois (played by Kirsten Cook; in a recurring gag, Michelle says, "Listen very carefully. I shall say this only once"--but never manages to get out the urgent message), his jealous wife (Carmen Silvera), and all his staff waitresses, who find the doughy René sexually irresistible. It is all très French, n'est-ce pas? TV buffs will see more than a hint of Hogan's Heroes, M*A*S*H, and even the old spy series Get Smart. Season 5 features as many crazy sight gags as ever (including a special "spy camera" disguised inside a potato), very silly accents, lots of cross-dressing (did you know female German officers were "allowed" to grow mustaches of "tasteful length"?), and over-the-top plots to foil the Nazis. One particularly memorable episode in this series involves disguising explosives in 500 Christmas puddings that René is asked to house at his café. How, he pleads, is he to explain the presence of 500 Christmas puddings at his tiny bistro? Resistance leader Michelle, exasperated: "Just say you have cornered ze market!" --A.T. Hurley

"Because," drones Michelle in a fake French accent you could drive a Citroën through, "you cannot get carrots that beeg." But of course. Extras include cast biographies and trailers. --A.T. Hurley

Advantages: Excellent Film Disadvantages: Slow in Places, some BAD jokes
...and adversaries. However I was surprised to see their good taste in giving Guy Siner the part of Harbormaster; you may remember him as Lieutenant Hubert Gruber in the series "Allo 'Allo!" (1982)
There are no bones about it, this is superior to other Depp movies and will leave a good after taste. You may need to see it several times to pick up the tightly packed scenes and dialog. I have viewed the duel DVD package and found instead of just rehashing the movie scenes that they give different insights that you may have missed in the first viewing. Even the deleted scenes allow you to see the way the movie could have went....

Advantages: Made in Britain, Legendary lines, great music, greatest movie ever, greatest ever car chase Disadvantages: The American re-make (which I won't watch)
........ which is governed by John Le Mesurier (best remembered as "Sgt Wilson" in Dad's Army).
There's also Benny Hill in this movie, who plays "Professor Peach".... who has a perverted obsession with BIG ladies.
You might also spot "John Louis Mansi" in the Traffic control room..... who you may recognise as the actor who went on to play "Von Smallhausen of the Gestapo" in comedy series "AlloAllo".
The music used in the film is impossible to forget (unless you suffer from Alzheimers or some similar such medical condition) as are some lines such as Michael Caine's "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off"..... or there was also one by Noel Coward involving Spaghetti & Italian prisons that'd probably drop you right in it with the PC brigade if you used it in a movie these days.
You should definately grab hold of the DVD of this movie...
