All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is a movie that was released earlier this year, and was directed by Jonathan Levine. Despite having a quite ridiculous title, the trailer to the movie actually looked quite good, so I decided to watch it out of interest. I'd barely heard of any of the actors involved in the film, so even though the trailer looked fairly good, I wasn't expecting too much of a good thing.
The movie centres of a group of teenagers who drive out to a family ranch in the middle of nowhere, for a weekend of partying, drink, drugs and pretty much anything else. Among the group is Mandy Lane (Amber Heard), a quiet, well mannered, all round good girl, with looks to die for. There's only one reason that the other males in the group have come on the weekend break .. and that's to try their luck with Mandy Lane.
During the weekend, members of the group begin to go missing, and soo they are aware that there is someone else on the ranch with them, hell bent on killing each and every one of them, one after another. The group, with no means of escaping the ranch, must struggle to survive the hellish nightmare that they're enduring, in the hope that help will arrive before it's too late.
The best compliment that I can give this movie is that it was a decent film. That's about it! It wasn't a poor film, there was enough in the film to keep me watching, but at the same time I kept hoping that the film would come to an end pretty soon. It's a film that killed a few hours for me, but is not one that I will be watching again in a hurry.
Pretty much the whole cast were unknowns to me, the only one I had seen before was Amber Heard, who I had previously seen in the American series Friday Night Lights. She is certaily an actress with a lot of talent .. although how much of that talent relates to her acting abilities is up for debate. She certainly is a very beautiful girl, and is one reason to keep watching the movie if little else. As for the rest of the cast, I found many of them to be quite annoying, and so was quite glad in a way to see some of them get killed off in the film.
The biggest let down in this movie, in my opinion, is that the identity of the killer is revealed about midway through the film, which for me meant that there was no longer any suspense left in the movie. Granted, the killer's identity can be guessed from quite an early stage, but the fact that it's actually revealed, means that the film no longer keeps you guessing, which I personally feel is the greatest attribute that most of these teen horror / thriller flicks have. The movie contains quite a lot of violence & gore, and also contains scenes of a sexual nature, and of drug abuse, hence the 18 certificate which is very much deserved.
This is certainly not a movie I would suggest to ruch out to see, however if you are a fan of teen horror / thriller films, and have nothing better to do, then you could give this film a go .. but don't expect too much!
