outline, with wry humor and exquisite detail, Herriot's experiences in the 1940s and '50s as a veterinarian in Yorkshire, England. The Complete Series 6 Collection continues the yarns into the '50s, as Herriot's practice expands and his home life with wife Helen becomes more important to him. Yet the most unforgettable moments remain not only his treating of the sick (or just plain ornery) cows, tabbies, and bunnies of the Yorkshire countryside, but also the eccentric, hard-working (or just plain ornery) residents of the county. This four-disc boxed set includes characters like twin brothers Roland and Oliver Strong, who live together in the cottage their mother left them--though they have refused to speak to each other for 50 years. Herriot gets the unenviable task of being summoned when one old coot accuses the other of poisoning one of his rabbits. The real pleasure of this series is simply letting the interaction of the characters wash over you, especially that of Herriot (played with bemused heart by Christopher Timothy) and his prickly partner, Siegfried Farnon (Robert Hardy). The pace is leisurely, which suits the subject perfectly; so brew another pot of tea and settle in for a cozy, uplifting experience. Extras include cast biographies. --A.T. Hurley
Advantages: Brilliant animation, lots of interesting extras Disadvantages: Only 6 episodes
...The animations on this disk are brilliant, as ever. I was initially slightly disappointed by the fact that there are only 6 short episodes on the disk, but the extras are really fascinating! This left me undecided - would it be better to have the whole of series 2 on one disk, without the extras, or is it worth splitting like this?
On the whole, I think I learnt so much from the extras that I would prefer to have only the 6 short episodes and learn from the narrative. For example, the first time I saw a 'rehearsal' of a scene, I wondered why the lip sync was suddenly so poor. It took me a while to realise that these were actors, miming along to the 'real' audio tape. The actions of these actors are the body movements which are subsequently animated - a fascinating process. It's touching how proud all the staff are of working...

Advantages: A lot of laughs for your money Disadvantages: Some "filler" episodes
...For those of you who don't know, Red Dwarf is a sitcom basedin space , based around a Scouse slob named Dave Lister, a dead crewmate named Arnold Rimmer, a droid and a creature evolved from a domestic cat. Absolutely brilliant viewing.
Having already bought just the shows shows volume one last year, I saw the need to buy this set. Series 5 and 6 have always been my favourite, and I had to own them.
The episode "Gunmen of the Apocalypse" from series6 won an international award for it's story.
I wasn't dissapointed, and even though series 7 and 8 are a bit of a let down, owning the complete set of Red Dwarf is opportunity that can't be missed.
This set has 6 dvds, as series 7 and 8 have 8 episodes each, which may explain why the set is generally more expensive than the first set.
There also arent any extras on the dvds, but I have never...

Advantages: The Finest British Comedy of the past 16 years Disadvantages: Some poor sound quality.
...The sixth series of Rob Grant and Doug Naylor's classic sci fi sitcom, and possibly the finest of all the series'. Ever since a young boy way back in 1988 i have been hooked on Red Dwarf and it has had me in stitches ever since. 6 more classic Red Dwarf episodes are contained within this DVD in bite sized chunks. For those unaware of what Red Dwarf is, allow me to spread a little light on the show.
Dave Lister, a no good space bum who enjoys nothing more than sugar puff sandwiches, a warm lager and a glass of cold vindaloo sauce in the morning, is the lowest ranked member on the space mining ship - Red Dwarf. Lister is caught by the ships captain having smuggled an illegal cat on board, and as a punishment is forced into suspended animation for the remainder of their current mission. Whilst in 'stasis' an unfortunate event occurs which...
